CNN'a story neglects to say that it could have been done manually, but that they had ruled that out somehow. I once was a control room operator for a live TV production and though it was over 30 years ago, I remember how I could manually reproduce what was done to Cheney. One way you switch between video sources to select the one to go out over the air to move the "wiper". It looks like a T-handled lever, like an automatic transmission lever on your car's console. Except, instead of being one handle, it's split down the middle into two separate components. The handles are wired to act oppositely. One handle adds signal as you move to the top, the other removes it. If you grab both at the same time and move them together, one video input fades out and one comes in. If you held the handle with the Cheney video at full strength and rapidly moved the other handle to the other end of it's travel and back, you'd get what was seen. It's only a few inches of travel. Secondly, you could switch without using the wiper. There are switches where you simply go from one video input to another without using any "effect" controlled by the wiper. Those switches are "make before break" so there's no interruption of signal. Tap one of those so that it makes contact but does not latch and disconnect the first video source and you'll get that same effect, superimposed video. Believe me, it is easily possible to mannually do what was done to Cheney.
CNN has no credibility whatsoever; everybody knows that. That is why that network is losing audience in droves because when America wants serious news they tune somewhere else.
In other words: it was the nut behind the switch.
Judging from the ratings, liberals don't watch television, listen to talk radio, or read books. Where do they get their presumed superior knowledge about the world?
They feel it.

The explanation sounds logical,and i'd bet my last dollar it was done intentionally,but unless the miscreant comes forward and admits to it.....
The Clinton News Network is purely LIBERAL DEMOCRAT in their existence. Just like the NYT. That is why they will do anything, say anything to hurt the Bush administration and this country -- as they have done, and will continue to do.
It does me too but theit day in day out slanted journalism bothers me alot more. Alternate take.....

Doctor Raoul is correct - I do basically this exact thing with graphics every week when we tape my church's services for later broadcast on a local cable access channel.
Thanks for posting this. I think some angry, frustrated liberal producer decided to pull a fast one on his/her bosses at CNN and now the network is covering for this person. CNN is a tool of the Michael Moore/Howard Dean democratic party and NOT a legitimate source of news.
I turned a reporter who pissed me off green once....

This is why these vermin are so dangerous. Ann Coulter is right. We need McCarthy. But sadly, all we have is Orrin Hatch. Lord help us. We are in big trouble.
I was a Chief Engineer of a TV Station years ago, and this could have been done very easily. When I first heard the CNN's explanation, I thought "Computer Glitch, my ass!"
