CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a man charged with drunken driving, and hitting and killing 18-year-old Min Soon Chang, actually goes by at least two other names and has been arrested for drunken driving at least three other times.
State troopers discovered the man, Jorge Hernandez, is an illegal immigrant who has been arrested for DWI in three other states.
Troopers said Hernandez, who also used aliases Jorge Soto and Jorge Martinez, was driving the wrong way on Interstate 485 when he crashed into Chang.
"There's no way to explain the frustration level everyone has," said U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick.
Myrick has been working to strengthen immigration laws since last summer when a Mount Holly teacher, Scott Gardner, was killed in a crash involving an illegal immigrant with several prior DWIs.
Myrick introduced legislation that would require police to enter arrests made for DWIs into both a customs database and FBI database.
"So when somebody has a DWI in one state and they get another DWI in another state, that state will know it. Right now there is no way to know," Myrick said.
Part of Myrick's bill would also call for automatic deportation of any illegal immigrants convicted of drinking and driving.
Police said Hernandez was deported to Mexico twice before.
"It doesn't matter what your nationality is, what country you're from, we're talking about this immigration issue is aimed at everyone," Myrick said.
Angeles Ortega-Moore, who heads up the Latin American Coalition, agrees with Myrick but also thinks DWIs should be felonies, not misdemeanors.
"I think the bigger issue, more than documentation, is the issue of drinking and driving," said Ortega-Moore.
The coalition works to educate clients about federal, state and local laws. Ortega-Moore said her toughest job is spreading a positive message to the rest of the community.
"There are a lot of individuals out there who are working and making a decent living, and following the law and being real good citizens," she said.
I also hear reports that this guy has been deported twice.
Deported twice, Arrested for DWI three times, Using three separate names, obvious used false documents to get new drivers licenses, Now he has killed someone.
What the hell lets send him back to Mexico and give him another chance. Maybe he has learned his lesson. Everyone deserves a fourth chance.
The guy sure knows how to work the system, probably coached in a Mexican border town, by liberals, Did anyone check to see if he had a new pair of those border running sneakers?
I will gladly pay of the weapons and ammo required for a firing squad. That, or hanging, is way more than this scumbag Criminal Alien deserves.
"Angeles Ortega-Moore, who heads up the Latin American Coalition, agrees with Myrick but also thinks DWIs should be felonies, not misdemeanors.
"I think the bigger issue, more than documentation, is the issue of drinking and driving," said Ortega-Moore."
Wrong.
The two issues are interrelated here. As to Ms. Ortega-Moore's feelings about drunken driving, they are personal opinions which have been rejected by the mass of Americans and their legislatures due to the incidences of serious injuries and deaths occassioned by just such miscreants and criminals as this villain.
Its nice to know there is a Latin_american Coalition to look after the best interests of Hispanic Americans.
Why isn't there an Anglo-American Coalition to look after the best interests of Ango-Americans whose language, culture and social values are being eroded by an inundation of illegal invaders such as this villain whom Ms. Ortega-Moore is apparently so concerned with protecting.
Perhaps if this villain had ridden into a vehicle driven by Ms. Oretega-Moore or one of her friends, family members, or fellow Hispnic-Americans, her perspective on this entire issue would have been an entirely different one.
Sure there is Sue. YOU in Congress don't care about the borders or the illegals. And you won't until terrorists blow up trucks and buses across the nation and laugh about how they walked across the open borders.
I say ship all illegals back with a v-chip implant and in the event that they try to come back here they can be traced down and incarcerated.
illegal alien...oh thats okay then.....
Typical Liberal knee jerk respondse. let all kinds of crimminals walk in across the borders, and commit crimes, kill people. Do nothing about the illegal aliens, but impose harsh laws on the rest of us for the crimes these illegal (read can't be held responsible either) commit.
If we gave these lunatic lefties razor blades, would they slash their own wrists?
I think you're right.
Once again, our politicians are largely content with the situation just as long as it's the little people who are being picked off one or two at a time.
Why isn't there an Anglo-American Coalition to look after the best interests of Ango-Americans whose language, culture and social values are being eroded by an inundation of illegal invaders such as this villain whom Ms. Ortega-Moore is apparently so concerned with protecting.
There used to be, it was called the U.S. Government. They have abandoned us for other voters.
How about a chip that exlodes if they cross back over the Rio Grande?
That crossed my mind . . . .
I say ship all illegals back with a v-chip implant and in the event they try to come back here by crossing a designated global latitude, the chip will explode.
Twice? Nope. Try SEVENTEEN times.
Gotta love the statement from assistant special agent in charge of North Carolina for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, Jeff Jordan:
"We have no idea how he's getting back in" the country, Jordan said.
For once, words fail me.
It indelibly stuck into mine.
This illegal has been sent back to Mexico SEVENTEEN times.
That he has "re-entered" 17 times? I'm beyond angry.
Legal immigrants add a great deal to our country, and if anything we should have more of it.
Illegal immigration needs to be stopped entirely, not just the DWIs, not just the gang members, no illegal immigration tolerated whatsoever.
