The school, proposed inside the recently shuttered Fortway Theater on Fort Hamilton Parkway, would bring about 440 students within earshot of the 40-year-old Alpine Arms shooting range - an FBI and NYPD favorite.
"We're trying to get children away from guns, not near them...," What a glass-half-empty twit!
What do you think the crime rate is in such a neighborhood, honey?
To: freepatriot32
One would think that the FBI people (or at least some of them) are among those more qualified to use firearms in the proper fashion. Thus FBI range ought to be considered as a better kind of neighbor.

An open wall classroom opportunity! Teach your children well.

Hunting season is going on now and not only is our whole community within earshot, it's probably the kids from the local public school who are doing the shooting. My kids have told me that all they hear about these days is the other kids plans to go hunting with each other. Great community, nice local kids, safe to walk on the streets at night,...

I am sure that once the school opens these pantywaists will try and get the firing range shut down.

Clearly what those dingbat parents are afraid of is that their kids will get interested. "Hey Mom, can I learn to shoot, huh?" Puts parents like that on the spot to realize that learning to shoot is not just a cool thing but an excellent discipline and a good step in the process of maturation, but for some reason they're afraid of it. I got my first chance to shoot in the Boy Scouts (one of the guys' Dads owned a range). Wonderful experience; more kids should have the opportunity.

"We're trying to get children away from guns, not near them," said Donna Sbordone, a mother of three who lives three blocks from the 67th St. site. "It's just not a good place for a school."
It's such a horrible place that this mother of three lives three blocks from it. The article also says that it's underground. Shut up lady.

My old high school had a firing range in the basement, and a competitive marksmanship team (Junior ROTC)

Public schools are filled with the arrogance of those with too much power over our children. It's time to take it away from them for good. Challenge the inclusion of public schools under the commerce clause.

Many schools in NYC had rifle and shooting clubs, I remember one woman on a NYC radio talk show that she remembered school children actually carrying their guns, in locked cases, to school on the subway.
