Britons murdered in S Africa on farm

An elderly British couple have been beaten to death in a frenzied attack on their farm in South Africa.
Harold and Sylvia Hart were assaulted with a golf club and other weapons at Swing Gate farm, 20 miles west of Johannesburg.
Mr Hart, 88, and his wife, 84, were attacked on Friday afternoon in a fertile area of rolling hills where they had lived since 1953.
Their daughter, Lesley Hay, 53, said that Mr Hart was lured outside the homestead's electrified security fence. Here, an unknown number of thugs forced a bag over his head and attacked him with a "blunt instrument".
Both of Mr Hart's arms were broken. He was killed with repeated blows to the head and chest.
The intruders then entered the homestead and forced Mrs Hart to open a safe and hand over her jewellery. The grandmother was then beaten to death with a golf club.
Mrs Hay said: "We had tried to get them off the farm. But they wouldn't move: they loved that place so much.
"Old people are such soft targets."
The house was not ransacked but the murderers fled with a wallet, a mobile phone, and a handgun, as well as Mrs Hart's jewellery. The couple's cars, including two vintage Jaguars, were left untouched.
At least 1,700 white landowners have been killed since the end of apartheid 11 years ago and this toll grows almost every month.
In a country with one of the world's highest rates of violent crime, whites living in isolated homesteads are especially vulnerable.
