A hawkish Democrat calls for an Iraq withdrawal, setting off a bitter fight in Washington over how, and when, the troops should come home.
As friends describe it, Rep. Jack Murtha of Pennsylvania had been searching his soul for months, seeking guidance on what to do in Congress about Iraq. "I think he was going through what we Catholics call a 'long night of the soul'," said Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut.
(snip)
Which was precisely what the Democratic leadership wanted Murtha to do. A close ally, Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, was anxious to open a second axis of attack on Iraqand was aware of his growing antagonism toward the war. The two met and agreed that he would make his case in private to the party conference. After that, on his own, he would introduce a resolution calling for withdrawal of troops from Iraq "at the earliest practicable date." Pelosi and the other liberals would keep their distance, while their own Marine charged up the Hill. Framed by long rows of American flags at a press conference, he denounced the Iraq war as a "flawed policy wrapped in an illusion."

Thank you. It couldn't have been put any better.
Hawkish Democrat is a contradiction in terms!!
Catholic, MURDER/(abortion)don't cut it delauro. No way...no how not to mention DECENCY,.
Amen to that!!!!
Dems aren't "Hawkish"
As Fineman points out .. this was nothing but a political stunt thought up by Nancy Pelosi
No mention in the article about Murtha calling for cutting and running from Somalia as well. Murtha is not "hawkish."
This is how Murtha viewed Iraq in March 2004.
I've noticed many of these dim/lib "editorials" written since the Friday night vote are still along these lines. It looks like the official position is going to be to pretend it never happened.

TRANSLATION: Harry Reid and his "associates" were pressuring Murtha, wiht his miltary background, to stab Bush and American in the back for cheap political points.
You forget the pace of the Dinosaur Media. I bet most of these were written before they took off for the weekend and they had to run them since they had nothing else. Voting Friday Nite was brilliant PR
The only "tipping point" I have seen in the last 3 weeks is that Bush, Cheney, and the GOP are now fighting back instead of getting their butts handed to them and acting like punchng bags for the leftists. BTW - This "tipping point" reference is what liberals are referring to as Bush's impeachment.
Much of the same stuff he repeated the other day and it was reported as a groundbreaking speech. He's also stuck in a time warp, referring to the same trip he had taken that long ago as current.
Sounds like he went to the David Ferrie (JFK) school of sound clips: "It's a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma!"
That would make more sense!!
Well said!
Murtha is just another in a long line of Dimm useful idiots who proved to be merely idiots. You can almost hear the Dimm caucus yelling "Next!".
So he was used?
Precisely.
Thank's for making that correction. When non-Christians try to play Christian, it is usually unintentionally funny.
