At least one Arab television media outlet reported that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of the al-Qaida in Iraq, was killed in Iraq on Sunday afternoon when eight terrorists blew themselves up in the in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
The unconfirmed report claimed that the explosions occurred after coalition forces surrounded the house in which al-Zarqawi was hiding.
WASHINGTON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - U.S. authorities are looking into whether al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a gunfight in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a U.S. official said on Sunday, but a White House spokesman said that was "highly unlikely."

We have reason to be skeptical but this great news (hoping it is true) has been repeated in a couple of other sources on FR.
There is another thread going with the same rumor (in French no less!)

Maybe just wishful thinking, but I pray it's true.
It would be sweet. I'm sure they can make a positive ID from remains.
I know Debka was reporting this. But I am hoping the ultimate source of these reports is someone more trustworthy than Debka or their like...
It is about time for another Zark is Dead thread. I hope it's true.
i did a search on zarqawi and didn't see anything, but I guess there are a dozen ways to transliterate his name into english
The DUmmies will be deeply saddedned by this.
Hopefully, this is true, but I'll wait and see - look at how many times we've had reports of his capture over the last two years.
I hope there's a DNA record on him...
I had December 20th in the 'al-Zarqawi killed' pool.
Will wait for confirmation.
Maybe he had a little help.
Who knows for sure, but I was hoping he could be captured alive, so we could put him in a cage and poke him with sharp sticks...
Guess he finally ran out of 'Top Aides'. Good riddance
It was a Sunday afternoon during the Holiday season when we learned that Saddam Hussein was captured. Let's hope we have another great Sunday afternoon to remember.
I guess he has an abject fear of water boards.
I agree. I would be quite happy if they dragged his sorry carcass in front of a TV camera, ala Qusay and Uday. But, I'm very skeptical of this type of news.
