At least one Arab television media outlet reported that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of the al-Qaida in Iraq, was killed in Iraq on Sunday afternoon when eight terrorists blew themselves up in the in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
The unconfirmed report claimed that the explosions occurred after coalition forces surrounded the house in which al-Zarqawi was hiding.
WASHINGTON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - U.S. authorities are looking into whether al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a gunfight in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a U.S. official said on Sunday, but a White House spokesman said that was "highly unlikely."

Please, let this be true!
That would be excellent news and just in time for Thanksgiving.
Just think of the boost in morale for our troops. Just think of what this could mean for the dims....
I realize even if this were to be true, it isnt the end in Iraq, but it makes it a helluva lot closer.
Fox just reported it.....Thank you!!
See #517. She has quite the reputation here at FR.
Ha!!!
Maybe you do not threaten the King of Jordan. Ok to kill those Americans, but - hey - he stepped over the line.
This story has restless legs syndrome!
I rolled my eyes when I first saw the headline of this thread. This one feels much different.
Katie's getting her black suit out for tomorrow, just in case
Bret Baer on Fox is saying US officials are gathering evidence at the site to determine if Zarqawi was there.
How long does the verification usually take? I can't stand the anticipation!
They must have gotten at least near him for the thugs to put up that kind of fight. These were the die hards.
Excuse me, but you really should have asked my permission before posting that picture of my legs.
: )
Actually, al-Zarqawi only has one leg- you have more than that pictured here!
It does seem plausible, and here's another variation on it--what if those same people were weary of the guy, as you say, and they blew him up along with his inner circle? Zarqawi never seemed the suicidal type, which is why I suggest this scenario.
She's going to be in a surly mood tomorrow if it's confirmed we got him.
Someone should be in charge of the pool and thread of who the FIRST dem is to be asked about their reation to the "news", and the FIRST one to say "Well they still haven't captured OBL....blah,blah,blah..." ...just my VERY humble opinion....
It's Groundhog Day!
