At least one Arab television media outlet reported that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of the al-Qaida in Iraq, was killed in Iraq on Sunday afternoon when eight terrorists blew themselves up in the in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
The unconfirmed report claimed that the explosions occurred after coalition forces surrounded the house in which al-Zarqawi was hiding.
WASHINGTON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - U.S. authorities are looking into whether al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a gunfight in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a U.S. official said on Sunday, but a White House spokesman said that was "highly unlikely."

Bin Laden has been ominously silent for 13 months. If he was dead, somehow I'd think we'd be able to find that out. Or maybe not? He is/was more of a spokesman rather than a leader.
Zarqawi does travel with one of his wives, at the same time he allows women in his group to be suicide bombers and allows his commanders to keep there wives with them.
It's likely since it's common knowledge that he has family in Jordan living in a typical "high-walled" house, similar to the many that Bin Laden has built over the years. Several of Saddam's family were sources for DNA which helped identify Uday and Qusay when they were killed.
I noticed the same thing.
Didn't Z just threaten Jordan's king? If so, that was darn fast timing on finding him. I wonder how long they knew he was there?
We have had Zarqawi and Bin Laden's DNA for some time.
Zarqawi moves every couple hours.
Stay tuned!
Assuming that the reports are true, does anyone else see the poetic irony that al-Zawqari was, in the end, killed by his own jihadist suicide bombers?
Since fellow Muslims did it, does he still get his 72 virgins?
Its probably best taken out of breaking news if it takes days to confirm by DNA. (imho)
I think the story is unconfirmed at this time but not proven false either.
Uh huh....and I have some dry property for sale in St. Bernard, Louisiana too.
So, then Debka was caught telling the truth!
If his senior command was also present and now dead, the resulting blood-bath as a successor struggles to emerge will be frightening.
I think that the one with the missing leg (legs?) is Ayman al-Zawahri, bin Laden's second in command that is always seen with him in videos and has lately been the only one talking to the press via video.
Nice. I grew up in Cedar Rapids, myself. Didn't live surrounded by corn fields, but I sure miss seeing them on drives in the country.
If it was Jordan intel, sadly, they've probably known where he was all this time. It seems to depend on whose ox is gored.
Well, I hope we can all hear some good news in time for Thanksgiving later this week.....
Interesting ping.
