At least one Arab television media outlet reported that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of the al-Qaida in Iraq, was killed in Iraq on Sunday afternoon when eight terrorists blew themselves up in the in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

The unconfirmed report claimed that the explosions occurred after coalition forces surrounded the house in which al-Zarqawi was hiding.

WASHINGTON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - U.S. authorities are looking into whether al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a gunfight in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a U.S. official said on Sunday, but a White House spokesman said that was "highly unlikely."

Let me see, Al Quaeda blew up three hotels including one wedding resulting in the loss of many Palestinian guests.
Then Al Qaeda appolgized.
Then Al Qaeda announced that they wanted to kill Jordan's King.

Dang, I guess they've been consulting John Kerry's advisors again.

We said we were worry after the hotel bombings and before we announced our intention to kill the King.

"Well, I voted for it before I voted against it."

permission was denied from somewhere up the food chain to strike

I imagine they wanted to capture our boy alive and 'talk' to him for a while. I also imagine he DIDN'T want to be captured and took the pipe. Too bad.

He would have been a lot more fun captured alive IF we could have kept that info from the Dems who would have wanted him to address Congress with his grievances.

One of the generals on Fox said that they had Zarquawi in their sites from, I believe, an unmanned plane, and that permission was denied from somewhere up the food chain to strike.

That scenerio makes perfect sense if they hoped to take him alive. It would also lend to the theory that the bad guys blew themselves up because they knew they were doomed when the ground troops showed up at their door.

Actually, He's been reported in Mosul before, and
there is a large contingent of Saddam supporters
in Mosul that he had force emigrated into Mosul
during his reign where zarqawi may have had
friendly refuges among.

Altough I prefer him on Al Jazeera getting his mouthed swabbed like Saddam, an Uday or Qsay corpse would work for me.

I dont think he would allow himself to be taken alive though. He is at heart a coward and he knows death would be easier than the treatment he would receive if caught alive. And he knows getting killed would make him a martyr to his followers.

D'OH! If true, skeptical as the rest, somehow I'm guessing that the top brass wasn't supposed to be involved at this level if true. I'm not so sure those virgins are meant for the leaders.

If it is true, creamate the bastard with a dead hog and then put the ashes into a can of ham and then wrap it up and send it to whomever is in charge for Al Qaeda.

As an LSU fan, I can say that 'Bama lost its last two games because their best WR, Prothro, went down with a broken leg in the last few minutes of a game where they were blowing out Florida. He never should have been in there at that point, and it cost the Tide dearly.

The offense just sort of died after that. It was good enough to get past a couple of weaker SEC opponents, but when it came to LSU and Auburn, the defense couldn't carry the whole team on its shoulders. Hats off to Mike Shula for getting a proud team back on its feet, but he never should have had such a key player in the game late in a blowout victory.

If he is dead, my money is on Jordanian intel.

Agreed, he crossed the Rubicon with that screw up and then to declare his desire to assassinate the king of Jordan.

Hopefully he is now just a dead maroon.

LOL! Hadn't thought of that. This is proof positive that our troops are so incompentent at hunting down and killing terrorists, that the terrorists have no respectable course of action except offing themselves.

Oooooooh, the shame of it all!

That same thought crossed my mind, did hee became suicidal because his family denounced him?

It's not that simple.

Zarqawi is a free man (or was a free man) because he lives and moves in a world which we do not comprehend. He is (or was) protected by many people, probably including some of our "friends", for reasons which make no sense to us.

However, by shaming his clan and attacking the Head of all Clans (in Jordan), he forfeited his right to live in the world that has been hiding him from us.

Once he is (or was) decloaked, once he had to live in the world that WE live in, his life was measured in hours.

debka doesn't burn its own journalists or have MoDo writing for it.
