Ahhhhhhhh yes...the softer side of Sears. Upon my trip to the retail "giant" I walk by and notice the price of the Christmas Trees they were pushing...but oh...what is this? They are not called Christmas Trees...nope.

They are not called Holiday Trees...nope.

They are not called Festive Trees...nope.

They are called......................

WISHING TREES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dare you: Go back, hang a cardboard ornament on it that says: I WISH I WERE CALLED A CHRISTMAS TREE!

I actually own some Sears stock. Not a lot. It's kind of strange being a Sears shareholder since I have spent most of my life reaffirming that I would never own Sears stock. But, there it is. There have been a few changes since the takeover, but I have yet to notice the parking lot jammed with customers.

I think we've finally got my in-laws converted to practically NO presents, after years of the present overload we always got and felt like we had to put up with...I think my MIL finally got tired of wrapping ...LOL....it was ridiculous anyway....at Thanksgiving we're going to their home and I'm going to ask them to help us with the postage for the packages were sending to soldier family and the Iraq family....as a Christmas gift! It'll mean so much more than another pair of earrings, a coat, or watch....or all of the above! (Actually, what we're sending to Iraq are some of the gifts they've given us in the past...LOL.)

Like you, we are blessed.

It is not "Sears". It's Shears.

They're a cut below the rest.

Could someone please direct me to a national chain that still says the word Christmas?

Only Tru-Value Hardware and Hallmark have the guts to use the word "Christmas" in their commercials, at least from what I've seen on tv recently.

I was told yesterday that the Post Office did not issue Christmas stamps this year. Haven't checked it out yet.

My bad. Just checked out the USPS web site. They did not issue any NEW Christmas stamps this year. The Madonna and Child is still available from previous years. The new stamps this year are holiday cookie cutter stamps.

Just call them Festivus Poles and be done with it.

LMAO!!!

I wonder if Sears sells a kit for the "Airing of Grievances" ceremony too.

Everyone should walk in, ask about their Christmas trees, and then when they show you to the "Wishing Trees" you simply say "no thanks!, I was looking for Christmas trees. Thanks anyway" and walk out.

I'll be spending all my "Wishing Money" there at Sears!

Indeed! If they have one set up, I wonder if there's a pile of coins underneath it.

There is only one thing that can put a stop to this tragedy. Christians need to scale back purchases and make a point of celebrating Christmas for what it is. Go to church and celebrate. Spend the holidays with family and friends. Stay away from retail stores.

As long as we keep spending billions of dollars on gifts and decorations, we will continue to be bullied by anti-Christian activists. But if we stop spending money on things like "Wishing Trees" and "holiday" decorations, places like Sears might get the message.

I can't imagine Wishing trees would sell well in hispanic neighborhoods. They understand the real meaning of Navidad.

Feliz Navidad ~ Jose Feliciano...
Sears wants to wish you a Merry Christmas,
from the bottom of your pocketbook.

Our Sears is 5 mi. from the border. We'll see how their little campaign plays here.

hose who can't muster the courage to call it Christmas, won't get my Christmas dollars.

Why should it require courage to call the holiday "Christmas"? We have celebrated Christmas for many centuries without anyone being harmed by it. There is no reason why we celebrate that day as a special holiday other than the birth of Jesus Christ. The big retailers are very happy to to take our money in exchange for their Chinese made Christmas gifts and decorations, but they can't bring themselves to use the proper word for the season.

I noticed a Home Depot flier in my mail yesterday. All 6 pages featured Christmas related items such as Christmas trees, Christmas tree holders, Christmas wreaths, Christmas lights, and many items intended for Christmas gifts. Yet with all that there was NO mention of Christmas as the reason for the season. Every reference to merchandise offered for the Christmas season was prefaced by words such as "winter holidays" or "seasonal gifts" instead of Christmas.

There was another insert from the CVS drug store chain which used the same tactic to avoid using the proper title of the holiday. Scores of ads for Christmas related merchandise but no mention of Christmas. I am utterly disgusted with the entire retail industry. If they want to deny the religious significance of Christmas and still rake in our money for the items which are bought solely for Christmas gifts they can do it without my money. There are still some stores in my small town which aren't ashamed of the name "Christmas", and I would rather give them my business than to further enrich big corporate retailers who apparently have forgotten that they are doing business in a nation in which 90% of the people still celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ instead of the winter solstice, or Gayia, or Mohammed, or some envirowhacko Earth Mother.

I propose a total boycott of every retail chain which refuses to use the name "Christmas" in it's ads. Whether or not anyone else joins with me, I will not trade with retailers who are ashamed or afraid to call Christmas Christmas. I also plan to email or call the corporate offices of every corporation which is denying the reason we celebrate this holiday. Maybe if their Christmas sales fall off and they are told why that is happening they just might realize that what they are doing may be OK in some parts of the world, but it is not the best sales strategy to use here at home in the good old USA where we still celebrate the miraculous virgin birth of God's Holy Child.

I was just thinking; if it's gonna be called a wishing tree, then we need to change some song lyrics.

We Wish you a Merry Wishmas

Oh Wishmas Tree, Oh Wishmas Tree

I'm Dreaming of a White Wishmas

Etc.
