CAPITOL HILL (AP) -- There's been heated debate on the House floor regarding a GOP effort to force a vote on Congressman John Murtha's call for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
Democrats charge the effort is a cheap political stunt and a personal attack.
Instead of offering Murtha's resolution, Republicans plan to reject a similarly worded resolution offered by one of their own to show support for US troops.
Democrats say that's a "counterfeit" resolution, charging it guts Murtha's thoughtful approach to the situation.
The fiery, emotional debate climaxed when Ohio Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, who is the lowest in seniority, recounted a message a Marine colonel wanted to send to Murtha.
She said he told her that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do."
Democrats booed and shouted her down, bringing the House to a standstill.
With you on that one hon. They are doing their best to avoid the very thing that they have griped for.
Put up or shut up.
I don't understand the democrats sudden ratcheting up of thier desperation on this. It's like they're doing damage control for Zarqawis big screw up in Jordan.
I'm not sure, either, but a lot of FReepers are very enthusiastic about this...
Crowley (D-NY) says it is republican politics as usual -- I look forward to having them account for their actions/words.
Oh, brother, now the surrender monkeys are claiming we're questioning Murtha's patriotism. Name me one Repbulcian congressman who has done that?
Dims are preaching treason tonight
Will the papers report that if allowed to continue, US Military will guard the trial of Saddam? ... and hundreds if not thousands will tell their story about WMDs, mutilations, murders, and all...maybe the Dems want to cut and run to avoid the humiliation....just a matter of time
They were blasting this story bigtime on CNN earlier this evening. Ford (D-TN) was saying how she had no understanding of the etiquette of the Senate, etc.
But the point is...she was telling what one of her constituents wanted to be said... Do the Dems not care to hear from The People?
Kucinich, who was on the radio YESTERDAY calling for pulling out the troops today says he'll vote against the resolution calling for EXACTLY what he asked for.
Now beloved (No Longer Free State) asked a good question how did Obey get away with the same thing Schmidt did not get away with? He used the name of the member on the floor, where is his rebuke/punishment for not following the rules?
Kucinich needs a straight jacket, what a disgrace he is.
Kuchinch (sp) just blew a gasket
the truth hurts doesn't it---you filthy marxist traitors
'bout time. Get up on your hind legs, gal !
The most junior member of the House.
Good for her.
I heard what Ford said, saying she was new and she is but she knows the rules and as I said she rang the bell.
Yes, I would think her voter's deserved to be heard and as such shared what he had to say ...
Been a while that the republican's have shown spirit and showed they wanted us to keep them in their job.
Good job, Candice Miller.
Those who refuse to support and defend a state have no claim to protection by that state. Killing an anarchist or a pacifist should not be defined as "murder" in a legalistic sense. The offense against the state, if any, should be "Using deadly weapons inside city limits," or "Creating a traffic hazard," or "Endangering bystanders," or other misdemeanor.

Politics as usual hunh...
Attack the messenger time on the left, distract, deflect...
Act II - - Do the Honorable Gentlemen of the GOP have the balls to continue?
We will see....
