CAPITOL HILL (AP) -- There's been heated debate on the House floor regarding a GOP effort to force a vote on Congressman John Murtha's call for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
Democrats charge the effort is a cheap political stunt and a personal attack.
Instead of offering Murtha's resolution, Republicans plan to reject a similarly worded resolution offered by one of their own to show support for US troops.
Democrats say that's a "counterfeit" resolution, charging it guts Murtha's thoughtful approach to the situation.
The fiery, emotional debate climaxed when Ohio Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, who is the lowest in seniority, recounted a message a Marine colonel wanted to send to Murtha.
She said he told her that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do."
Democrats booed and shouted her down, bringing the House to a standstill.
They just can't let it rest.
But he is kinda creepy...here he is doing his Hannibal Lecter impersonation...
And then there's the "want to come with us to sacrifice this dog?" look...
Hinchey...ugh

What struck me about this whole affair is that the Congresswoman never "insulted" or "humiliated" or "defamed" Murtha (which I assume is the great breach of decorum that got her remark stricken). She quoted a currently serving Marine whose statement (if one ignores the programmed response by Democrats) could be interpreted as "Hey, fellow Leatherneck, we don't take the coward's way out. We stand and fight!" I personally think that the 'Rats were just waiting for any remark that could be twisted into challenging Murtha's "courage" or "patriotism" so that they could (instead of observing the rules of order themselves) yell and cavort like "question time" on the BBC.
She is a fine mamma~ Bump!
BTTT
Fellow angry conserv BTTT
Filthy Marxist traitors~ Bump!
JD Hayworth questioned Murtha's patriotism yesterday (Thursday). I guess that's what Murtha deserves for 37 years in the Marines, Vietnam service including a Bronze star and two Purple Hearts?
BTW: JD Hayworth's proud military service is...uh... an Eagle Scout badge.
You should be ashamed to attack Murtha.
What WMDs?
Uh, hon, Schmidt is in the House, not Senate.
The quote, which nobody on this site seems to be able to include was,
"He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message, that cowards cut and run, Marines never do. "
Impugning a member by name is against etiquette. Same reason members don't carry sidearms or weapons on the floor.
Thanks for posting this great comment again. I can tell that it annoys you.
If it annoyed the Dems, especially that senile old putz Murtha, so much the better.
Bravo for Ohio Congresswoman Jean Schmidt!
I just went to Jean Schmidt home page and sent her a email (had to use Ohio address) but I wanted her to know we all needed to hear what she said on House Floor.
Excellent idea, perhaps a hand written letter might also be of help.
Thank you for link, shared it with others.
Concur and if you had heard Bush speak to the troops at Osma Air Base about 2 am CDT, you would have seen a more confident man. I have to wonder if the vote boosted him prior to landing.
Thanks for the comment.
