CAPITOL HILL (AP) -- There's been heated debate on the House floor regarding a GOP effort to force a vote on Congressman John Murtha's call for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
Democrats charge the effort is a cheap political stunt and a personal attack.
Instead of offering Murtha's resolution, Republicans plan to reject a similarly worded resolution offered by one of their own to show support for US troops.
Democrats say that's a "counterfeit" resolution, charging it guts Murtha's thoughtful approach to the situation.
The fiery, emotional debate climaxed when Ohio Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, who is the lowest in seniority, recounted a message a Marine colonel wanted to send to Murtha.
She said he told her that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do."
Democrats booed and shouted her down, bringing the House to a standstill.
In fairness, it was used as an excuse for her breaking of Senate etiquette, and when the Dems do such things as flout Senate etiquette, FR tends to erupt in hisses against them.
My beloved just told me she was spouting off. Yesterday she was not showing support for Murtha, that he was entitled to his remarks but supporting them. Guess she changed her tune.
LTNS, nice to see you friend.
Nancy Pelosi certainly can't be considered one to dispute verbally when it comes to a stout American concerning politician.
Just show me one time that she has politically spoken in a way that would be rhetoric of concern for us as a country in total. /sarc
After all, "idiots" deserve a political icon too.
Just saw the replay on H&C. Yea! Rep.Schmidt!!!!!
Wow, those evil Republicans, forcing a vote, requiring the dimwits to go on record rather than lying and bloviating for the media and each other.
God, I just want to smack Colmes; You can play a clip of what Murtha, Kerry etc. said, and he calls it a lie, a distortion of what Murtha, Kerry etc. actually meant....
Hannity did a pretty good job arguing common sense, but was pretty much shouted down. Susan Estrich who I don't always completely despise needed to be slapped tonight for sure.
I've been pretty upset at the gutlets republicans in D.C..... But this evening, I'm cheering them again.
"Go Team" Win One for the Gipper
See www.powerlineblog.com for a photo (photoshopped of course) of Democratic leaders holding up elucidation of the Murtha plan: 1) cut 2) run.
I think an appropriate moniker for these Veterans for Peace types would be a Murtha Marine. His name will live in infamy that way.
A Democrat without a life long concern, focus, and directive for the betterment of our country to the point of "to me come from me" political rhetoric is a revelation that floors me.
lol....with melancholy.
LOL...that's brilliant! :-)
You must be very, very young to be that shocked by the Dem's political maneuvering of late.
The orange actually is tempting.... ; )
we aim to please....Conservatives!
;^)
Au contraire...I am old enough to realize that the masses are shocked by the obvious, as long as it's repeated many times until they realize they should be outraged.
A statement worth contemplation....
I'm back to C-SPAN now my FRiend.
Orange? Argh! That's definitely meant to resemble a very bitter lemon, your mileage may vary. ;^)
Don't recall where I read it, but apparently the Democrat-run CIA had figured out a foolproof method for this. They gave communications equipment to the "good guys" and had them call in US bombing runs from--as you said--15000 feet altitude without bothering for visual confirmation.
Unfortunately the bad guys got ahold of one of the comsets and started calling in airstrikes on the refugees.
I still remember Bubba's quote, speaking to the bad guys, "This was your doing, not mine."
Truly a line for the ages.
The MSM will now procede to give Murtha the same "big kiss" treatment that Jim Jeffords got when he changed his party in 2001.
ok, I'm confused. I guess that was some type of procedural vote. The debate continues Henry Hyde is now speaking.
I dont question his patriotism, but I do question his sanity.
