FRiends,
I just found out that a friend of mine from Switzerland is going to take the Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America next month.
To properly welcome him into our great Republic, I would like to send him a link to this thread with a bunch of Freepers welcoming him to America.
BTW, his name is Ralf (and I spelled that right,)
Whatever may become of your politics, if you could- just for me- when you see the American flag flying above tall buildings and modest homes... when you see her on churches and in huge stadiums, please remember with reverence and awe in you heart, that your new flag flys at the expense of our patriot's blood- those who have come before both of us, and those warriors who are away from home right now.
You and I are a part of something very special and some of us take that very serioulsy- I know you will too.
Have fun Ralf, Ralf the American!
Welcome Ralf!! You are another legal immigrant who will make all of us proud. God Bless America!
~~~!!!Welcome to the USA!!!~~~
Welcome to America, Ralf! May she give you your heartfelt dreams! No matter where you were born or what your station in life, this country will always open its arms to those who seek to become part of it, and better their lot and the nation's. Every day is a new chance to make your life whatever you want it to be. Welcome home!
Welcome to this great country which is now yours, Ralf. We are honored to welcome you.
Welcome aboard, Ralf!
I've heard some things about the Swiss people's devotion to self government that were very impressive. I hope you'll help empower more of that atitude here in the USA.
Those who choose to become United states citizens often have a greater appreciation for our country than those who were born U.S. citizens, who all too often take their citizenship for granted.
With the exception of American Indians (or, to use the politically correct phrase, "Native Americans"), everyone on the fruited plain between the shining seas traces their roots from somewhere else. "My folks" have been here for many generations, but I can still trace my bloodlines to England (large majority), with significant bits, in approximate order, from Bavaria, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and a few other locales. No Swiss, to the best of my knowledge, but it is worthy of note that the first capital of my state was originally a Swiss settlement, as indicated by its name, New Bern.
Glad to have you here!
Someday, the otherwise exemplary Free Republic site will have an edit function.
Welcome to the USA, Ralf. I am honored that you wanted to come here and be a citizen in the Country that I love. Again, welcome.
Thanks for the great welcome to my friend.
I sent him all your responses and here is his reply.
just reviewed the comments. Thanks and I am looking forward to becoming a citizen - and subsequently become proud to be American.
On 12 December, I will have the interview with the INS, then they will tell me when the ceremony will take place (if I pass the interview...).
Thanks for your support always.
Next week, I am going deer hunting. So, there is not much else left for me to do to become an American...
Ralf
