I have always felt Iraq had WMD's ,what I do not under is why the administration keeps saying we were wrong ,there was no weapons .It does not make sense.
I think that it was a huge mistake making a blanket statement that the intelligence was wrong. Iraq definitely had WMD - that is a certainty since they were used against the Kurds. The question is were they hidden or were they destroyed. Since Iraq was not cooperating with UN weapon inspectors, the latter is not likely.

If there were toxic chemicals present for chemical warfare, there would also be traces of it. Recall the trailers that were suspected of being portable biowarfare prep labs? The interiors had been scrubbed down with chlorine bleach.
The media alleged the trailers were actually hydrogen-generation labs for weather balloons. But why would such equipment have been scrubbed down with chlorine bleach?

Saddam and any other captured, top level, former Iraqi Ba'athist officials we suspect of having tangible data concerning the pre-war trucked transfer of Saddam's WMD to Syria, should be administered a powerful dosage of thiopental sodium 'truth serum'.
Saddam & his ex-cronies need to be video taped while they spill the beans for the whole world to view - placing this political football to rest.

"The media alleged the trailers were actually hydrogen-generation labs for weather balloons. But why would such equipment have been scrubbed down with chlorine bleach?"
Actually the assessment was that the trailers "could" be hydrogen-generation labs. Also the fact that much smaller, economical, commercial, and LEGAL (for Saddam) units were readily available for Saddam sort of shot that theory in the arse.
These labs were gutted for the most part. Why? Who made the assessment? Actually no one did. All they said was it "could" have been.

You do realize that we have proving grounds on military bases right here in the United States, with buried chemical weapons that we can't find? I mean, we know that the Army dumped them out or buried them as late as the 1970's, but as to actually finding the barrels... we can't do it.

"President Clinton took a one star general who ran a humanitarian effort in Northern Iraq, Shalikashvilli, and made him Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff."
I always wondered where he came from and why he got that appointment, it seemed very strange.

"The article also fails to account for the complete lack of individuals (technicians, transport drivers, etc.) who had to be involved in production and the evacuation of the WMD."
If the WMD could be buried in the Iraqi desert, why not the technicians too? Even the Egyptian pharaohs slaughtered the bearers and mourners that accompanied the treasures to the crypts.
To: etradervic
Also, don't forget that Saddam flew his air force to Iran prior to the Gulf War.

Actually, I considered that many times before.
Send one group of guards to watch as the techs and drivers complete burying the stuff. The guards then execute the techs and drivers and report to a nearby Army base, supposedly for transport elsewhere. Saddam gives orders to kill them on arrival as traitors. Then no one but Saddam knows where his WMD were buried.
Classic tactic and certainly Saddam had no humanitarian qualms. But we are talking about thousands of people here. It seems it would get too messy to contain at some point. Or you would have the sudden disappearance of a lot of people that would indicate mass murder of those involved with WMD programs.
