Chertoff to Hannity: Removing 10~11M ILLEGALS too expensive and impractical
FoxNews Channel: Hannity & Colmes ^ | November 14, 2005 | Transcript

Posted on 11/15/2005 6:51:13 AM PST by DTogo

...HANNITY: Because you had made a controversial statement, and you seem to be backing off of it now, and it was that people that are here illegally, that they all ought to be sent back.

I'm paraphrasing.

And it seems like now you've sort of backed off that position a little bit, because there are million that we estimate that are in this country illegally.

Why wouldn't we send them back?

CHERTOFF: ...I also recognize we've got, according to some estimates, 10 to 11 million illegals already in this country working. And the cost of identifying all of those people and sending them back would be stupendous. It would be billions and billions of dollars...

HANNITY: Why — in that sense, aren't you really rewarding those that didn't respect our laws and sovereignty? In other words, OK, you're saying, you came into this country illegally.

Now that we've identified you, we're going to let you even stay longer and make money, and then you can go back in three to six years.

Why don't we say, no, you're here illegally, you didn't respect our laws, you ought to go home? Why don't we just say that?

CHERTOFF: Well, Sean, you know, it's really an issue of practicality.

I mean, as a practical matter, we've got to identify these people and pull them out of the shadows.

Now, this is not an amnesty. This is not — the president's proposal is not a path to citizenship. It's clearly temporary, and it clearly envisions people who would have to commit to go back....

"In Malaysia last year, the government just told everyone that if you are illegal you have 6 weeks to get out. If you don't we'll put you in prison."

I'd like to expound on that. Send them to Gitmo and then turn them loose on Castro. Tit for Tat since he turned the worst of his criminals loose on us.

What I cannot figure out is WHY in God's name freepers won't support some kind of plan to allow these people to pay a financial penalty and STAY. Many of them have supervisory positions, or own small businesses, employ people, have homes, keep the laws as well as most citizens (except those they break because they are simply trying to stay here).

What is it about illegal you don't understand. My white American born Citizen son can't get a part time job because illegals are filling the slots. Give me a break with the sobbing bleeding heart liberal attitude..If they want to do it right, let them go through the process and come here legally. As long as they can come here illegally and the bleeding hearts support them and take them in they will keep coming. ...illegally. BTW if these folks really are business owners and supervisors and are paying taxes (meaning they are in the competitive salary market because their employers must pay social security and benefits for them) they are taking AMERICAN JOBS. Also get your facts straight. The VAST majority of these illegals are low wage labor and are employed on a cash basis and do not pay taxes, social security, or any other taxes except sales taxes (vote for the Fair Tax!). BUT they DO send their kids to public school, use social services (as in free school lunch programs, health care, etc) and download babies for free at local hospitals (who are automatically then citizens).

Stick to the issue and quit the BS - you don't advance any argument by personal attacks. Instead, you show your utter lack of argumentation skills by resorting to such posts.

I do however think there are counters to Chertoff's assessment and I attempted to address some of them. I didn't even get into the cost of healthcare and eduction.

For the record .. I don't agree totally with Chertoff and the President regarding our illegal problem

Some things they are right .. some things they are wrong .. some things it's a start, but needs more improvement on

I've also previously tried to discuss the health care and eduction problem with regard to illegals ... only to be slammed by others ..

Maybe I should go back to my first instinct and continue to avoid these threads because from reading some of the posts on this thread ... things haven't changed

Take care

And that's not just based on the fact that you're about the only person on this earth who advocates the "duplicate amendment" theory.

You mean like giving women the right to vote and the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude? Some could say these two amendments were redundant or duplicative.

I am referring to changing what is in an existing amendmen. The same held true for Prohibition. Your solution isn't working. You are depending on SCOTUS to change the laws and overrule previous rulings and precedent. Up to this very moment, citizenship is being conferred on anyone born in this country (save diplomats), which has been the case since 1868. When do you think it will be changed absent a Constitutional amendment?

"My white American born Citizen son can't get a part time job because illegals are filling the slots."

Entry level jobs have been quite scarce for over a decade because of Illegals and the greedy employers eager to take advantage. High schoolers looking for summer jobs likewise are not finding any.

He's now told everyone he won't do his job.

If Chertoff won't execute the duties he's assigned, Bush must FIRE HIM. There's no other choice.

Actually you are advocating bigger gummit!! You may hate President Bush for a variety of selfish reasons but I am advocating free market solutions to the problem. Take your CIC bashing somewhere else. Because you have an opinion does not allow you to risk our soldiers.

A flood of inquiries from Mexicans and other foreigners prompted the military to state that it will only accept U.S. legal residents and citizens at this time. Beyond the societal benefits of citizenship, non-citizens in the military cannot become officers, and must leave the military after eight years of service:

I'll betcha $5 that we will annex Mexico before a single illegal alien is deported under a comprehensive immigration bill.

Nice rant there amigo... but despite how much you HATE this fact...we ARE a nation of laws.

Circumventing the ones YOU and your ilk deem as inconvenient is hardly a solution.

Is he refusing to execute those duties, or being told not to excute those duties?

Oh, and if they are "under-the-table"....isn't THAT "Illegal"? Shouldn't the Illegal Infiltrators "doing the Jobs Americans Won't" have to pay TAXES on those jobs? Or are Illegal Infiltrators exempt from that too?

If someone is here illegally do you really think they are going to be bothered about taking money under the table? Should they pay tax on that income? Yes.

Please don't confuse "hating" President Bush with being exasperated/disappointed/angry that he won't do his job.

Calling the President names hardly helps your case. I see no difference between the right trying to bring down the President and Ted Kennedy. Fact is many on this thread are likely trolls trying to damage the President. We are at war and disagreement does not allow our side to damage the CIC because it only adds aid to the enemy.

Sure it is a problem, but there are issues to address and closing down discussion like your group always does will accomplish nothing.

Show me a person that has never done anything illegal and I show you someone with a poor memory or a damn liar.

"WHY is it important to deport before we loosen the borders to allow more people in? The idea of letting them in seems to me to acknowledge the need for immigrants. If they are already here, why is it such an article of faith that they have to be DEPORTED before the same bunch wants to be RE-IMPORTED. There are reasonable ways to register and "legalize" the good guys that don't call for such draconian measures. We accept fines f"or most civil infractions. Why not this one?"

Because the first act they did when entering this country was to break the law.

Because the majority of them are tax cheats...as well as their employers.

A great many of them reside in our prisons, costing taxpayers a boat load of money, see: California

Because a great many of them suck up social services such as schooling / health care /housing and are a VERY expensive monkey on the taxpayers back. That's why?

Are you really this clueless or are you just pretending?

What is so important about your son being "white"?
