WALLACE: ...in October of 2002 in which you authorized the use of force, you went further than the president ever did. Let's watch:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ROCKEFELLER: I do believe that Iraq poses an imminent threat, but I also believe that after September 11th that question is increasingly outdated.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
WALLACE: Now, the president never said that Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat. As you saw, you did say that. If anyone hyped the intelligence, isn't it Jay Rockefeller?
ROCKEFELLER: No. I mean, this question is asked a thousand times and I'll be happy to answer it a thousand times. I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq, that that was a predetermined set course which had taken shape shortly after 9/11.
Now, the intelligence that they had and the intelligence that we had were probably different. We didn't get the presidential daily briefs. We got only a finished product, a finished product, a consensual view of the intelligence community, which does not allow for agencies like in the case of the aluminum tubes, the Department of Energy said these aren't thick enough to handle nuclear power.
They left that out and went ahead with, "They have aluminum tubes and they're going to develop nuclear power."
WALLACE: Senator, you're quite right. You didn't get the presidential daily brief or the senior executive intelligence brief. You got the national intelligence estimate.
But the Silberman commission, a presidential commission that looked into this, did get copies of those briefs, and they say that they were, if anything, even more alarmist, even less nuanced, than the intelligence you saw...

Will do both, plus write my senators! This is unbelievable and I am sick and tired of the Republicans just bending over and taking all the dems lies and treason! NO MORE MONEY TO THE RNC BY GOD, until they FIGHT BACK LIKE REAL MEN!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! Please ping me if we do anything organized as a group. Thanks!
At the very least, couldn't Rockefeller be censored by the US Senate and kicked off the Senate Select Intelligence Committee?
In fact nobody seemed to pick up on it, either then or during the panel discussion later (where Brit Hume made reference to a different Rockefeller comment). I was watching and it slipped by me too. Bill Bennett focused on it the next morning on his radio show, sending me back to my TIVO.
I called Rockefeller's office too. Asked them if they have a direct line to Syria so Rockefeller can give him classified information that will harm our troops.
Yeah. That's really bad, and may even be illegal (depending) but it's not literally treason unless he was "cleaving to" our enemies as the Constituion specifies.
Note that you can betray your trust, and even betray America, without committing legal treason. Rockefeller would have to have had some provable alliance with, subserviance to, etc, Syria or another enemy to be guilty of the specific crime of "treason". If he did it ONLY because he hates America, or because he hates George Bush, or becuase he wants to undermine a particular policy, or because he wants to be a big shot, or anything along that line, but NOT out of a loyalty, obligation or favoritism to Syria, then it isn't treason. (In my humble and non-expert opinion, simply reading what the Constitution says.)
bump
Well, we CAN 'try' Rockefeller in the COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION! He goes over there to our enemy, as a US SENATOR on the Senate Select Intelligence Committee, and tells Syria that it is HIS EXPERT OPINION that the US WILL evade Iraq before President Bush even goes to the UN or Congress with any requests in regards to Iraq. Syria,an ally to Iraq, then calls Hussein. Then Iraq sends all of the WMDS to Syria for safe keeping according to the UN reports. Tell me again why the Democrats get away with this stuff and the Republicans don't fight back?
"At the very least, couldn't Rockefeller be censored by the US Senate and kicked off the Senate Select Intelligence Committee?"
That seems a much better strategy than anythng criminal because it doesn't require what he said to be true - foregin policy is reserved for the executive branch - we can forgive contacts with friendly nations that border on foreign policy but not with enemies.
Does anybody know if his trip was authorized by the administration? Isn't there a travel ban to Syria?
Hopefully, Drudge, Rush, Hannity, and others will pick up the ball and give it airtime.
Here is a link provided by another poster in this thread about Rockefeller's trip to Syria:

except HE WAS NOT BY HIMSELF. The article from the Arab Times says he was accompanied by a 'delegation'. Who were they? How can we find out?
See post #15 might help search
Thanks, I see that the usual suspects(Durbin) were with him..lol. There were other unnamed members of delegation. Interesting little ditty I just found snooping around Sen. Rockefeller's press releases.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 9, 2003
ROCKEFELLER WELCOMES SUCCESS IN BAGHDAD: CAUTIONS WAR IN IRAQ NOT OVER
WASHINGTON, D.C. After three weeks of war in Iraq, Saddam Hussein lost control of his capital city today as U.S. tanks rolled into the center of Baghdad. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) said that he welcomed todays success in the war to disarm and remove Hussein, but cautioned that we still face many difficult and lengthy challenges. The following are his remarks:
"This is an historic day. We will all long remember the scenes of Iraqis first moments of freedom in Baghdad, welcoming the entry of U.S. forces and the collapse of Saddams rule.
"This is first and foremost a testimony to the skill of Americas armed forces who have performed with extraordinary effectiveness and dedication.
"But, the war is far from over, and tough challenges lie ahead.
"First, we have not yet secured many parts of Iraq where Saddams militia remain a threat to coalition forces and Iraqi civilians.
"Second, we must accelerate our efforts to bring humanitarian aid like food, water, and medicine to the people of Iraq. The Iraqi people need and deserve our help, but more importantly, it will demonstrate that we never intended to conquer Iraq, rather to liberate the Iraqi people and disarm Saddam Hussein.
"And, finally, we must be prepared to stay the course in Iraq and help the country to develop a stable government and functioning economy. Until there is stability in Iraq, Americas security will continue to be threatened.
"Today is appropriately a day of rejoicing in America and in Baghdad. But, we have a long road ahead of us if we are to realize the promise that today holds."

" Geez, I'm starting to ..intensely dislike our GOP senators and representatives. "
I agree with every word of your post.
I told a friend today that I have come to despise the US Senate.
He wholeheartedly agreed.
The Democrats work actively to undermine the country and the troops, the RINOS help them and most of the rest are weaklings.
OMG! The Face of the Enemy!
I think I'll print that out and put it on the refrigerator door. It will help me with my diet.
>>I called the demonrat cloakroom and asked if that was the phone Rockefeller used to call his friends in Syria to give them our war secrets<<<
HEE_HEE. Would you care to share that number?
Good visual. Thanks.
>>>Yeah. That's really bad, and may even be illegal (depending) but it's not literally treason unless he was "cleaving to" our enemies as the Constituion specifies.<<<
This guy has been cleaving to our enemies the way his Uncle Nelson was cleaving to Meghan Marschak!!
