One of the centerpieces of President Bush's counter-offensive against his Iraq war critics will be a Republican National Committee commercial focusing on a speech given by former President Bill Clinton.
U.S. News & World Report says the RNC ad will spotlight Clinton's Feb. 17, 1998 speech on Iraq, where the former prez "guaranteed" that Saddam Hussein would use his weapons of mass destruction.
"Let's imagine the future," Clinton said seven years ago. "What if [Saddam] fails to comply [with U.N. sanctions], and we fail to act, or we take some ambiguous third route which gives him yet more opportunities to develop this program of weapons of mass destruction and continue to press for the release of the sanctions and continue to ignore the solemn commitments that he made?"
Clinton warned: "He will conclude that the international community has lost its will. He will then conclude that he can go right on and do more to rebuild an arsenal of devastating destruction.
"And some day, some way, I guarantee you, he'll use the arsenal."
Other soundbytes from Democratic flip-floppers will feature WMD warnings from Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Two years too late, but better late than never. |
And don't let up...
This new 'offensive' is long overdue! They should have gone after Clinton sooner.

Can't you just hear their come back" I question the timing"
"The president is doing this because he is in trouble" "The president is the only one responsible for the 2000 deaths"
Add your own democrat liberal extreme left comments. Then we can send them to Uncle Howie
Well, heck, this is definitely, "IT'S ABOUT TIME" for a BUMP!!!
100% correct-o-mundo....!!!!!!!!!
The doom and gloomers here should take note. The Democrats haven't been at all successful on capitalizing on any of the issues many say are costing the Republicans or the right. If anything, I will give the media, the DNC and high gas prices credit for creating a high level of anxiety.
Sorry, but you a wrong.
In politics, timing is everything. And now is the time!!
I don't think using clips from a Clinton speech is "targeting" him. More like using him.
'Bout time he was good for something.
Time to lay in a supply of popcorn.
Yes, you are alone in this.
It is a brilliant masterstroke from the evil genius, Karl Rove.
In politics, the timing is everything. And the timing is now perfect.
GO 'W' GO !!!
I might give them some money after all!
You said "if Bush was a real fighter he would of done this a long time ago."
I disagree.
If he had a magic wand to create these commercials, and knew what exactly the public would be misinformed of, then maybe.
But, even then, it would have done no good.
Do you not recognize rope a dope when you see it?
The President has given the DEMS all the rope they want, to ensure the hanging is permanent.
These commercials will be effective now, so back then they would not have benefited anyone but those on websites like this one.
We cannot accomplish much by preaching to the choir. We must reach the unbelievers.
Also, be prepared. This is gonna get ugly. As the source of their power is reduced, the desperate will fight in any way, fair or unfair, that they can. Murder comes without a second's hesitation.
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
In politics, timing is everything. And now is the time!!
If he keeps it up, I am wrong... If he doesn't keep it up, you are wrong my friend.
Time will tell...
Bush a puppet?
No. Karl Rove is the 'director', in a sense. Or Public Relations Specialist.
The President of a company, a nation, is the one that provides the leadership. The goals. The concern for the good of that enterprise.
He does not operate the front desk. He has people well-trained to do that.
There are many very skilled people in the Bush Administration, and many are doing exemplory jobs in these trying times.
It is Rove that may be getting the glory, but there is no reason to suppress that.
It should be a reason to acknowledge the skills of our President in choosing the best man for the job.
