Bush WMD Response to Target Bill Clinton

One of the centerpieces of President Bush's counter-offensive against his Iraq war critics will be a Republican National Committee commercial focusing on a speech given by former President Bill Clinton.

U.S. News & World Report says the RNC ad will spotlight Clinton's Feb. 17, 1998 speech on Iraq, where the former prez "guaranteed" that Saddam Hussein would use his weapons of mass destruction.

"Let's imagine the future," Clinton said seven years ago. "What if [Saddam] fails to comply [with U.N. sanctions], and we fail to act, or we take some ambiguous third route which gives him yet more opportunities to develop this program of weapons of mass destruction and continue to press for the release of the sanctions and continue to ignore the solemn commitments that he made?"

Clinton warned: "He will conclude that the international community has lost its will. He will then conclude that he can go right on and do more to rebuild an arsenal of devastating destruction.

"And some day, some way, I guarantee you, he'll use the arsenal."

Other soundbytes from Democratic flip-floppers will feature WMD warnings from Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

"It's about damn time Bush started fighting back!"

I was somewhat amazed when I read your response. Certainly not because of the sentiment, but because your words were exactly what I was going to post.

The Dems better hope and pray that no WMD ever made it or makes it out of Iraq...

"What we are seeing now is Bush sawing off that limb."

We can only pray.

The future of the Republic depends on it.

One of the best ways to win is to let the other side tell its lies until the moderates and liberals all believe them. Then show with the absolute proof of their own words that they are lying.

I agree (and many others have expressed the same idea), but timing is everything. Rove is a master of political timing, but I hope his debacle with Fitzgerald didn't cause him to delay this attack for too long. If this succeeds it will be a masterstroke, I just hope the left isn't able to "spin" this into a lastditch effort to salvage Bush's poll numbers.

Agreed.

"Rope a dope". Yea, right. If this was such a great strategy why didn't Bush pull it out during the '04 campaign? Seems to me Bush played a very bad hand and only managed to win by winning Ohio by 100,000 votes.

to steal oil and make Halliburton more profits

Perhaps someone should remind them that Halliburton is in the business of construction, not oil...

Thank God we are finally fighting back- let's hope that the campaign is hard hitting enough to make a real difference. The situation in Iraq, the decent economy, the falling oil prices, etc. do not justify the sort or doom and gloon the Rats have managed to stir up in the country. I guess this is what happens when you let lies go unanswered for so long- sling enough mud and some of it will stick.

I just hope the left isn't able to "spin" this into a lastditch effort to salvage Bush's poll numbers.

First of all the are doing it with RNC advertising. The RNC has raised 81 million in the last 6 months compared to the DNC raising 31 million. The Democrats have raised only slightly more than they have spent. The republicans have raised nearly three times what they have spent. With very strong CFR limitations on the RNC spending for candidates, the question is why did they raise all those millions. They did it in just the the last six months. Not the six months before.

That says to me there was a plan for the money and a time selected for using it. Why did they raise the money? I think we now know.

Yes Fred, as usual President Bush is constantly being underestimated. President Bush has one thing going for him that the ENEMEDIA and the DemocRATS can't take away from him.

The TRUTH !
