It's harder to ignore the elephant in the living room when the elephant is setting fire to it.
The elephant in France -- whose name begins with the dreaded M-word journalists dare not mention -- hasn't been allowed in the living room. He's been locked in the shed out back.
This gives liberals an excuse to blame the rioting in France -- which has finally died down after two weeks -- on the standard liberal villains, poverty and racism.
But if racism is a cause of the rioting, poverty isn't. As Theodore Dalrymple noted in a prescient article in the City Journal three years ago ("The Barbarians at the Gates of Paris"), those whom the media choose to describe as "French youths" have cell phones, cars, boom boxes, gold chains around their necks. "They enjoy a far higher standard of living than they would in the countries of their parents' or grandparents' origin, even if they labored there 14 hours a day."

Espcially like his emphasis on the welfare mentality, economics etc..

I'm glad that you mentioned WWI and the devestation it wrought on the European continent--I believe the death toll figure is close to 20 million...mostly young men...that dang trench warfare and the invention of the machine gun destroyed nearly an entire generation...then came WW2...no wonder they're so anti-war over there...war has ravaged their gene pool.
I think the reality that these riots run counter to the liberal script is one reason for the lack of reporting here in the U.S.
Liberal illusions will now be liberal hallucinations..
What is happening to the arse of the French as their head lies buried in the sand, could more appropriately be discussed on some porn site. Though it must not be as painful as it appears. The French in fact seem to find it pleasurable.
Let's see....mooslimbs working 14 hours a day at something besides building bombs and killing defenseless people would mean....that the ones without oil revenue wouldn't be totally broke.
Hmmmm
Five prayer sessions a day, a month off work for Ramadan, um...lunch, coffee break, a total lack of understanding how banks operate...10 kids to support....
Oh no, it couldn't be their culture and religion holding them back.
