Curfew fails to stop French riot (Scorecard du jour)

Police in the French city of Lyon have used teargas to disperse youths throwing stones and attacking cars, the first rioting in a major city centre.

The unrest, which followed more than two weeks of violence in France's poor suburbs, occurred hours before a curfew for minors came into force in Lyon.

In Paris, a ban on public meetings has ended, with no reports of unrest.

Police overnight said the situation across France was "much calmer" than on previous nights.

More than 370 cars were burned overnight, down from 502 the previous night. A further 212 people were arrested.

"Double secret probation" didn't work, huh? Maybe the French should let these Mooslim hoodlums have a toga party.

"More than 370 cars were burned overnight, down from 502 the previous night. A further 212 people were arrested."

Monsieur Dufus, Vice Chairman of the Internal Department of Surrender said, "Hmmm. 370 cars a night. We can live with that on a permanent basis. Maybe it will reduce the need for street lights."

"Gee...in a month or so, if this keeps up, there will be no more cars left in France."

Maybe, it's their way to stop global warming. You think?

Yeah you'r right freeangel, actually is a massive surrender. Thx for the explicitation about pictures A new one for all of yours. Because i hate probably more chirac and right traitors than communists "Welcome to FR. Hope your car is ok." My car is ok because i have a garage. Only poor people who live on "banlieus" are affected in fact. Bizarrely, "BMW", "Mercedes" or other "big cars" haven't this kind of problem. Well, who have this car except dealers on suburb ? Ho ! That's a racist affirmation no ? "I have a question that nobody seems to have an answer for. What do ordinary French people really think about Muslims?" Ordinary there are 3 kind of french (not muslims): -Lefters who "love" muslim because if not they think they are racist (yeah muslims is a race for them) -Righters or others who are very wary about them, but don't say anything because if they do, lefters call them as racists persons. On elections some of them vote Lepen, the others side don't vote or to righters because they think they are not lefters (with Chirac that's a big error!) -Politicians who have never lived with muslims (and to be honest with french ordinarry people too) who see all problems with them as a consequency of what doing "America", "Bush (when they can't say Americans" "Israel", "Sharon (when they can't say Israeliens) ", "Neo-liberalism", "globalisation economy (if they are righters)", Religion (exept islam of course), too many examples sorry ... Ideology instead of pragmatism, reality. So for them, they are the solution of this because they critize "the good things". A little speech and it's sufficiant. Don't say words means problems don'y exist. It's the same with journalist (who are good marxist believe me). I live in a Orwellian country. A decadent society. One day i leave France, maybe for USA. Need to be better in english, i know :) Thx for all americans supports. And believe me, lefters in your country are nothing compare to mine.

So, when they say "youths", they mean youths of all different religions, not just one specific religion?

Catholic, Buhdists and Muslims alike are involved?

That's not what they want to say, but what they definitely don't want to say.

Graphs are an excellent suggestion - my husband is after me to use my photoshop powers for good (drumming fingers like Mr. Burns). I open this up to all posters of the scorecard. Dazzle me!

The liberal media has tried to blame the riots in France and now Belgium and Germany on high unemployment and lack of jobs rather than admitting it was Muslims sensing a chance to tear something apart and shoot at police. This was a chance for Islam to test the system and the government it hates.

Right. The Left is desperately lying about the militant Islamic uprising in France to cover their own failure and ineptitude in recognizing and responding to this threat. They would have us believe it is about poverty, racism, or peugeotphobia. Even if this were the case, the Left would still be in a position of failure because the socialist Left can not produce more jobs or economic growth.

But you are absolutely correct. This is a cultural and religious based uprising against what is considered a soft target (France). France and the Left have failed the test.

Welcome to FR and you just have to ignore all the repetitious slanders against the French, I think when people say negative things about the French they mean the French government and ruling elite and not the French people in general.

France is a complex country, like all countries. There is a south and a north, urban and rural, wealthy and ordinary. Ignore the jokes. You are very welcome here.

I wonder if the French ambassador is wondering what is
happening to his "sh**ty little country" now?

P.S. All Hollywood Publicity Hound Big-Mouth phoney braggarts
are now allowed to go to France without a passport. Fire
extinguishers preferred. Don't forget the Perrier and your
little French poodle(soon to be a real hot dog).
And you get to live in a country with ghettos, riots, and
now they are suppressing free speech
by not allowing meetings to occur. Mon Dieu!
Come on, get a move on...Get on...to the land of the free.
Let's see how many move over there now....or rather you'd stay
in Beverly Hills, or the Hamptons, or Santa Ynez...hmmmmm?

Someone should do a graph on this by day and by NVB. It could be fun and enlightening.

France should put cars on the Endangered Species list.
