Bill Richardson: I'm Running in 2008
NewsMax.com ^ | November 12, 2005

He "bobs and weaves" when asked about running for president in 2008, according to the Washington Post's Al Kamen.

But Kamen says that New Mexico's popular Gov. Bill Richardson is telling friends his hat is in the ring for the presidency.

Kamen describes Richardson as "the former congressman, energy secretary, ambassador to the United Nations, globe-trotting troubleshooter" and notes he was in Washington last week to promote his new autobiography, "Between Worlds: The Making of an American Life."

During a Beltway dinner, Kamen writes, Richardson spilled the beans to dinner companions.

Questioned about his presidential plans, Richardson told friends, "You gotta read my book."

Richardson also said that governors were the future for Democrats.

A gentle slap at presidential wannabes Sens. Clinton, Kerry and Biden?

Richardson urged guests to "Keep your powder dry" in throwing support to another candidate.

"I'm running, and you can tell people that," two other dinner guests recalled him saying "I'm going in 2008," Kamen quotes Richardson.

He got one part right, even if the wording was wrong. Governors are normally elected President, not Senators. Warren G. Harding and John Kennedy were the only sitting Senators who were elected to the White House.

WE can all look forward to the videos of Robert KKK Byrd ripping Richardson for his roles in the Clinton scandals... looking for a job for Monica at the UN; etc. That Clinton "patina" will glow for years.

Richardson FAILED to deliver New Mexico and its 5 electoral votes for Kerry in 2004 which hurt him politically. Yes he would carry NM on a ticket but not Arizona or Neveda where the GOP is strong. Many Hispanics in the Southwest are very religous and are pro-life and pro gun. This hurts Bill richardson with his Clinton years baggage.

I don't think Richardson will be able to raise the kind of money it would take to win the dem nod. Hitlery, Kerry, Edwards, Gore and Biden all have existing networks and high powered fundraisers, I just don't think Richardson can compete with that. Plus, he's a moderate, so I highly doubt he will attract much support from the extreme left/moveon/Howard Dean wing of the dem party. But, I think he'll be on every dem candidates very short list of possible VP running mates. He's a perceived moderate, a popular governor in a Red State the dems need to take back in order to win, plus he's Hispanic.

I think this is one of those issues that won't make a bit of difference to anyone but the people that would never vote for him anyway (like us).

It's one of those things that is to complicated for the average voter, and people will say that since he has been elected Governor since that time negates it as an issue.

I see it the same way with McCains Keating Five scandal. There is no way (unless something new and explosive comes out about it) it makes a difference. I have said since 2000, that Richardson was the one to watch out for. Not only is he personable, he is moderate, and Hispanic. If he can get past the liberals in the primaries (big IF), I think he has an excellent chance at the Presidency. He has none of the baggage, of a Hillery Clinton, or John Kerry.

I would never vote for him, but doesnt this guy have some descent common sense positions on some issues?

I'm no fan but I think Richardson is real threat. He has a moderate image that will be much harder to attack than the phony Ms. Clinton's manufactured version. OTOH, he is still a Democrat and if you dig deep enough you will still probably find his Socialist Soul just like all the rest of them.

He best CV enhancer is "offered a job to Monica at the UN but was turned down by her". Second is gave away our national secrets at Los Alamos while in charge.

I sort of liked Exsoldier describing Gov Bill Richardson as a RINO. Take a look at Democrat Richardson's stance on the issues:

He reads just like a rascal RINO!

Excellent point . Richardson is toast. Los Alamos is what destroys him politically. DNC will never put him on the ticket.

But what about Non Governors. Eisenhower. Truman was a Senator 1 year before FDR died. LBJ was a powerful Senator.
Nixon was a Senator. Taft was a senator. Granted they were not Senators when Elected but I need more Coffee sorry.

Even if Wen Ho Lee sues and wins, Los Alamos won't hurt Bill Richardson because it happened before he was elected NM governor. Richardson would use the, "that's old news" defense.

I don't think Richardson is running for President. He's running to be Hillary's VP, (even though his resume is far more impressive than hers.) I read him described as a "moderate liberal populist", a description that would play well in a national election. But no way will the Soros funded wing of the DNC allow Richardson to be the party's nominee.

He will run an get re-elected as Gov in NM. Then throw his hat in the ring for President, but just enough to make him a viable VP candidate. I would bet he would be Hitlery's #1 choice for her #2 spot.

He won't win the nomination, but he could very easily end up the VP nominee. People will look at that border emergency he declared and figure he is tough on illegal immigration, though I seriously doubt he truly is. Bush better get up to speed on this issue, and soon.

"I would bet he would be Hitlery's #1 choice for her #2 spot."

I'm thinking along the same lines as you are. I believe Hillary will pick him to be her running mate. She knows she can't pick up any states in the South so she's going to go after the Southwest.

State politics is different. No telling how he'll betray on a national level. Gun Control has been a major plank of the RAT Platform since 1967. Let's see where GOA or NRA put him at the national level. Let's see what he proposes to do about the borders. Easy to say something has to be done and it's NOT than it is to say THIS IS WHAT I WILL DO TO SOLVE THIS..... and still be held accountable on the level of a Read my Lips.....No New Taxes....etc level. Something that would sink him if he broke the pledge. Like taxes and the economy sank Bush 41.
