Gonzaga under fire over conservative speaker called anti-gay

SPOKANE -- Gonzaga University, which has rejected recent attempts to bring a Planned Parenthood speaker and "The Vagina Monologues" to the school, now is under fire for the on-campus appearance of a conservative who contends homosexuality is a matter of choice.

The College Republicans brought in Dr. John Diggs for a lecture titled "The Medical Effects of Homo-Sex."

Some students criticized the lecture in the student newspaper, the Bulletin, as anti-gay and promoting stereotypes.

Diggs' appearance Tuesday was intended to foster open debate and inquiry, said Daniel Brutocao, president of the Gonzaga chapter of College Republicans.

The speaker focused on homosexual promiscuity and asserted that "homosexuality is the result of a bad relationship with one's same-sex parent," said Rod Aminian, president of the gay and lesbian campus organization, Helping Educate Regarding Orientation, in an e-mail message.

Aminian's group had encouraged attendance and debate about the lecture -- and he said he supported the university's handling of Diggs' appearance, which included limited publicity.

But in a letter to the Bulletin, he criticized the lecture and labeled Diggs "an ideologue of vulgar proportions."

Brutocao acknowledged that the university sought to limit publicity about the event.

"The university did not want us to advertise because it was a controversial topic, but they permitted us to bring the speaker to campus," he told The Spokesman-Review newspaper. "We acceded to their wishes in this matter."

The newspaper was unable to reach the Rev. Robert Spitzer, Gonzaga's president, for comment on the report published Saturday.

In 2000 and 2001, Spitzer barred a Planned Parenthood speaker and an on-campus performance of "The Vagina Monologues," an all-woman play made up of monologues about sex, masturbation and lesbianism.

Critics said the decisions undercut academic freedom.

Telling the medical truth is now anti-gay and homophobic.

The butt-banditry supporters DO have a deathwish.

HERO: (Helping Educate Regarding Orientation: A Gay/Straight Alliance) As an integral part of the Gonzaga University, HERO members are motivated by the humanistic, Catholic, and Jesuit traditions to which this university belongs. They seek to encourage the development of self-knowledge, self-acceptance, a restless curiosity, a desire for truth, a mature concern for others, and a thirst for justice within the context of faith development and human transformation. In October, HERO hosts an annual "Coming Out Day" BBQ.

The rest are illegal aliens.

College liberals at it again, I see. If they bring a raving idiot like Michael Moore to campus, they justify it by citing the 1st Amendment and saying that all points of view must be heard to maintain the learning environment. But if you bring somebody like Wayne LaPierre or Clarence Thomas to campus to speak, they want to shut it down because it's "hateful" and "divisive". They won't admit it's because they want to censor any point of view different from their own.

In a forum of open debate, the liberals lose every time. That's why the only course of action they have is to limit what you hear and see. It's not about debate or learning, it's only about being fed one point of view.

Homosexual Agenda Ping.

The usual "free speech for me but not for thee" Gay Agenda style. Nothing worse than to hear the truth - that no one HAS to be "gay". It is worse than sad, because there are no doubt many confused young people who desperately need to hear the message of freedom. The promoters of the homosexual agenda want to keep people enchained by same sex desires and acts. If they had any respect or concern for others they wouldn't repress the free speech rights of others who disagreed with their agenda. They reveal themselves by their Nazi-like repression.

Freepmail me and DirtyHarryY2K if you want on/off this pinglist.

No kidding. The University of Georgia (Georgia!!!??) Law School had a protest arise over Clarence Thomas coming to speak at the school.

Now, what, pray tell, does ANY law school have any business protesting the appearance of ANY Surpreme Court Justice on its campus?

Leftist liberals are without question the most pompous, deluded, and self-righteous people I have ever come across. Almost without fail.

I take it Gonzaga is a Cathlic institution? Why do they have a pro-homosexual, anti-Catholic group on campus?
