Local leaders unleash vitriol at O'Reilly
SFGATE ^ | 11/12/05 | Joe Garofoli

Not everybody took Fox News host Bill O'Reilly's on-air comments this week about terrorists bombing Coit Tower as the hyperbole that fills the talk-radio ether. One of the ticked off was San Francisco Supervisor Chris Daly, who Friday called for O'Reilly to be fired.

"For an anchor on a major station, Fox News, to be saying those kinds of things, it's just not OK," Daly said Friday. "It was just over the top."

Agreeing with Daly was San Francisco firefighters union president John Hanley, and not just because the hose-shaped tower is a tribute to firefighters.

"Who is this guy, O'Reilly?" said Hanley, who identified himself as both a third-generation San Franciscan and military veteran. "I've got guys fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm a veteran myself. What's he talking about?"

who Friday called for O'Reilly to be fired.

I think O'Reilly can call for the assassination of every high-level Democrat and not be fired. O'Reilly, love him or hate him, is Fox News' biggest weapon against CNN.

Yes, we're an American city that has just nulified the second ammendment to the U.S. Constitution for our citizens, and refuses to allow the U.S. government to recruit defenders of that Constition in some of our schools.

Well, it may be an American city, but it has sought to end it's existance as a city in the United States. Good riddance!

San Francisco has become little more than a place to stop and take a c--p on my way to worthwhile places to visit.

SF is irrelevant in the big picture. If it wasn't for the scenery it already would be.

What's Hanley fighting for, stand for?

San Francisco Legislators have repeatedly tried to make San Francisco Firefighters FIGHT CRIME (alongside the SFPD). For cryin' out loud, Hanley. Who do you stand for? Firefighters?

OH! Right. He stands for the "UNIONS". Where's he stand on consent decrees?

Funny, when Randi RhodeWhore of Air America said she wanted to see President Bush assassinated, she was just "exercising her right to free speach".

Sure, O'Reilly put a toe over the line. But wingnuts like Malloy, Springer and Maher do that same thing every single day so please, spare me the feigned outrage.

Except when the wolf is actually right there, sheep don't like sheep dogs. When the wolf is there, the sheep treat the guardian like a long lost friend. When the wolf is NOT there, the sheep think the sheep dog is a wolf.

So, you have to ask yourself one question: NO, not "do I feel lucky?" It's "Am I a sheep, a wolf, or a sheep dog?" If you want to be a sheep dog, what comes with that is the enmity and contempt of the sheep. They'll grudgingly tolerate the protection you offer, but they sure won't like you.

O'Reilly is many things, but an anchor is not one of them.

There is no excuse for responsible public officials using anything except fact based data driven criteria to make decisions such as this.

A mass die off of Bay Area liberals and lefties would shift California into the center politically. It would likely vote as a "red state" going forward.

This would be a good thing for America AND the world.
