President Bush on Friday shot back at critics claiming his administration misconstrued or lied about pre-war intelligence showing that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, saying "it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began."
"The stakes in the global War on Terror are too high and the national interest is too important for the politicians to throw out false charges," Bush said. "These baseless attacks send the wrong signal to our troops and to an enemy that is questioning America's will."
Bush also reiterated the need to defeat extremists seeking to destroy America and other modern governments, saying the "murderous ideology of Islamic radicals" is the great threat of the 21st century.

It took him long enough. Now he has to keep at it. Every time they lie ,hit again , only harder.

Time for a little revision (one word added) of the famous poem:
"Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye Democrats break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields"

Bill Sammon said this in today's Washington Times:
White House aides said the presidential push-back against Democratic criticism will continue well beyond Veterans Day. Mr. Bush himself left little doubt that he is fed up with being accused of cooking the intelligence books.

Ellen 'ranting' Ratner was on Fox&Friends this morning. She was 'outraged that Bush would use Veteran's Day to give that speech.'
I thought, no, 'Rantner', you are outraged that Bush is still in the White House, that he is still President.
'Rantner' is good at memorizing the daily talkingpoints and spewing them back, even when they are senseless ramblings.
Look for more lib/Dem [talkingpoint:] complaint/outrage of Bush attacking the Dems in the Veteran's Day speech.

Some how, it's become acceptable for the Democrats to lie every day. But unacceptable for the president to defend himself on any given day.
The biggest favor the president could give the troops yesterday was to defend their mission against the viscious lies told by the left.

Glad to hear this. I want it heard everyday. It will take time to undue their propaganda, and that only occurs by attacking back with the same points until it overcomes the propaganda in people's minds.

That is fine, except that it is 'preaching to the choir.' That speech should have been made a primetime speech and Team Bush should have used the bully pulpit to make sure most networks carried it. But they didn't.
The speech was only broadcast on the cable news (and some radio). Cable news, at the very highest numbers, only attracts 4-7 million viewership out of nearly 300 million population.
Bush gives these great, inspirational, rousing speeches to military crowds, but the general public misses them, because the general public don't follow the news as closely as many of us on FR do.
As good as the speech was, all most of the public know of it are the selectively filtered sound bytes that the MSM used.
This is just another example of the lack of effective PR. Team Bush have the message; they just don't seem to have any concept of how to get the message out.

I agree that the White House could use a new PR firm. We on FR do a better job defending the administration than the administration does. It does not help that Congressmen on our side of the aisle do very little to support the administration.
I was encouraged to read Bill Sammon today who said this was the start of a counter-offensive by the White House.
