The president should give a speech like that every week. His critics are on the TV every hour of every day.

Good speech by the President.

Will it help change public opinion about Iraq? Will it improve his overall standing with the American people? Will it hold off the Dem attack dogs? Will it get Congressional Republicans off their butts?

The consequences of leadership aren't changed by one speech. If the President wants to recapture support for his policy agenda, he will have to use the Bully Pulpit more and more. Bush can't afford to keep his administration on cruise control anylonger. The best offense is a good defense.

Keep your chin up, MamaB. Things will get better. Christmas is bound to be difficult, though...but you're not alone. God's always with you.

I hope Tony Snow is listening. He didn't think this speech should be given on Veterns Day.

Why not I wonder. This is what most veterans want to hear.

I liked the speech. I didn't love it. I would have loved it if he put the 'Rats on the defensive more. You can push farther when your enemy is on the defensive. Clinton excelled at that. Always refering to the GOP as "the other side", obstructionists, etc.. Bush was still a little too polite. As I said, I liked the speech and it was a good first step in the climb out of the ditch. Keep 'em comin'!

It's tough when all the newspapers and news on the radio is negative, negative, negative.

It was a VETERANS DAY SPEECH. He worked the criticism of the democrats into discussion of the sacrifice of our troops in war. ANWR would have been inappropriate for the setting.

Some were worried that attacking the dems would have been inappropriate, but Bush (speech writers) found a way to do it tastefully and with full appreciation of the solemnity of the day.

This speech needs to be repeated every week for the next century.

That's true! And the three paragraphs about the reason for going to war should've been read in every press briefing for the past two years. That's not pissing and moaning. That's lost opportunity. This is offense. We need more!

There are lots of good Republicans who are discouraged that the lies have been left to stand for so long.

Why haven't the adminsitration and Republicans in Congress been defending the war and condemning the lies? It's easy to do. We do it on FR all the time.

Use the Democrats own words against them...any Republican in Congress could have done it with one hand tied behind their backs.

This new tone is great. Noble. It didn't work. And we've seen support for the war at an all time low. We may not believe the polls. But I believe my neighbors and friends - people in their 50's and 60's who have NEVER voted for a Democrat and are strong hawks. But they/we are all discouraged. Not every poll is a lie.

Bless your heart.....listening to him was almost as good as a big ole bear hug! Today, if he were still with us, would be my mom and dads 57th wedding anniversary. He was a veteran.....and I miss him. Today reminds me how much! Thank you, George Bush, for lifting our spirits....

Hopefully, Fox will have the transcript up soon. We're getting ready to head out to a local Vet Day parade.

WH has transcripts up pretty quick, usually.

Thanks for your service - the country owes you and the rest of the armed services a debt of gratitude, and it's a tough debt to make good on.
