Wal-Mart worker 'history' after 'origin' of Christmas
WND ^

Posted on 11/11/2005 12:27:04 AM PST by News Hunter

"We at Wal-Mart believe this e-mail between a temporary associate and one of our valued customers was entirely inappropriate. Its contents in no way represent the policies, practices or views of our company. This associate, who was hired less than three weeks ago, is no longer employed by our company."

This Christmas versus Happy Holidays crap is nothing but a ploy by the same folks who hate Wal-Mart because it is a successful capitalist venture

Exaltly said. A few years back it was Mlcrosoft who had to "pay the price" for success.

There would be some significant changes required to turn it back into a paganfest. The ancient church did pretty good when it co-opted the heathen winter holidays.

If a company won't mention the guest of honor's name at His birthday celebration, they don't need to "welcome" my money for presents bought for the occasion. I will be buying NOTHING at Walmart this CHRISTmas.

"Stewart's remark is flatulent," Donohue says. "If Wal-Mart had a 'Holiday' section on its website that directed customers to its Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa sites, that would not be objectionable."

You know, I really hope the use of this word is because of an error in transcription by WND, and not because Donahue actually used it.

The correct word would be fatuous.

flat·u·lent (flãch'ə-lənt)
adj.
1. Of, afflicted with, or caused by flatulence.
2. Inducing or generating flatulence.
3. Pompous; bloated.

The last one works for me, Miss M. :)

I'm always chock full of Holiday Cheer...after watching movies like these:
SilentNight SantasSlay

And here's a film clip of what happened to a constable who forgot to call his parents for Christmas.

But hey, never shop at WalMart. Shop smart - Shop S-Mart.

Time for the international outlet WalMart to take its stores 'off-shore' exclusively. I don't shop there and won't. I'd rather shop at Mr. & Mrs. Neighbor's store - even with a premium. Buy Island - we are an Island nation.

Sounds like a spell-check error to me. I think the remark is fatuous.

Boycotts are generally useless, but you can say "Merry Christmas" in reply to the "Happy Holidays" riff, much like your mother says "Yes ma'am?" when you forget and say "Yeah." Pretend like you thought they temporarily forgot the right answer. It will drive them crazy.

"christmas" which is an ancient tradition that has its roots in Siberian shamanism.

The kooks are out there. I'm glad Donohue is fighting the Happy Holidays crap.

Christmas” (Christ Mass or "Christes Maesee" in Old English) is relatively new,

Be sure to define what you mean by relativelyThe following is from the Catholic Encyclopedia:

The word for Christmas in late Old English is Cristes Maesse, the Mass of Christ, first found in 1038, and Cristes-messe, in 1131. In Dutch it is Kerst-misse, in Latin Dies Natalis, whence comes the French Noël, and Italian Il natale; in German Weihnachtsfest, from the preceeding sacred vigil. The term Yule is of disputed origin. It is unconnected with any word meaning "wheel". The name in Anglo-Saxon was geol, feast: geola, the name of a month (cf. Icelandic iol a feast in December).

“Christmas” (Christ Mass or "Christes Maesee" in Old English) is relatively new, and has been in its current form only a few hundred years. The holiday observed around the Winter Solstice is a few thousand years old. People just have a hard time keeping them separate. It seems that exchanging gifts, parties and holiday decorations are more fun than simply attending a church service and having a large family dinner. Today more people celebrate Saturnalia than celebrate Christmas. They just prefer to call it “Christmas”.

I started to disagree with your statement, but the more I read it the more sense it made. It's not the fact that people celebrate "Saturnalia" in a technical sense, what is disturbing is, people are OFFENDED by Christ.

Why would anyone be offended by celebrating Jesus' birth? The fact that this whole holiday of Christmas has been turned from a spiritual meaning of good into Jesus offends people, tells you more about the direction we're all headed, and it's all predicted.

Be sure to define what you mean by relatively…

Relatively new when compared to the celebration of the midwinter holiday.
