Dan Rather's Disgraced Cohort On Book Tour
Accuarcy in Media (AIM) ^ | November 10, 2005 | By Cliff Kincaid and Roger Aronoff

Posted on 11/10/2005 9:36:47 PM PST by Jim Robinson

It is apparent that CBS News producer Mary Mapes hasn't learned anything after being fired for using forged documents to smear President Bush. She calls White House official Karl Rove the "mastermind" of the attacks on her story but admits to the Washington Post that she has no proof of that. The Mapes performance, which is designed to sell her new book, can only diminish the reputation of journalism even more. Have we reached a point in journalism where the facts and evidence simply don't matter?

Her bizarre performance continued on CNN's Larry King Live, where she was asked if the Bush administration put pressure on CBS to retract or "suppress" the story. "I don't know. I have no evidence that they put direct pressure on," she said. But she went on to complain about the "thousands of e-mails from conservative bloggers," as if the White House had been behind them. So was this "indirect pressure" from the Bush Administration? That was the implication from Mapes—again without any proof.

This is reminiscent of former Democratic Vice President Al Gore's recent speech in which he falsely claimed that Dan Rather was "forced out of his anchor job after angering the White House…"

What we are seeing here is an attempt to rewrite history, to obscure the fact that CBS tried to subvert the President during the heat of a campaign using phony documents. The Mapes version is that the story was true and that CBS retracted under pressure from the White House or CBS parent Viacom. The only problem with the Mapes version is that there is absolutely no proof that it is true.

I'd like to know her "tour" schedule.

I'd love to look this woman right in the face and tell her NOBODY told me to put up that thread that night. I'd love to hear her try to convince ME I'm a Rove flunky.

OPINION: Mapes is a liberal.
She is symbolic of the lame-stream media.

If this ever happens, and you have a little advance notice, please let us know. A lot of us would pay to watch you and this pyscho liar "discuss things"!:)

Mapes only reply was: CBS has been working on that statement for months.

Gosh, she won that round hands down.

Folks

On another thread, I saw another freeper opine that she is hawking this book because she believes she'll never work again.

I disagree.

It is certain she will have all the speaking engagements she can handle talking about government consiracies, hate speech, and other favorite crapola of the Nutsy Fagans on the hard left.

When it comes right down to it, Mapes is the perfect liberal. She lies as a matter of course, and cannot seem to remember any pertinent fact that might embarass or contradict her.

Dumbest Q&A Award. (Nov. 10)

Bill O'Reilly: Are you a Conservative or liberal?

Mary Mapes: I don't know.

In the delusional alternate universe the Left inhabits, something is true simply if they believe it to be so, want it to be so, and it furthers their agenda. In their warped minds, the onus is on us to prove they are lying. But even when it's been proven that they lied, the proof doesn't matter to them at all, and they continue to lie blatantly and pathologically.

You nailed it!

She looked absolutely demented on O'Reilly last night. She had a ton of bad makeup covering up her blotchy skin; she looked like she has just been released from an a mental hospital and had that deer in the headlights response to O'Reilly's lame assed questioning.

I caught Mapes last night on the O'Reilly factor, and I was amazed at how sure she is that this story is true, that she was sure that her "evidence" was good, and how she worked for 4 years on the story. Not a good thing in a reporter.

It really puts into perspective just how much the left hates President Bush, and how they are driven to try to destroy him. It's become a religious crusade to many, like Mapes.

“Bill Burkett, was an anti-Bush activist who admitted lying about where he got them.”

But so is the MSM... and that's the bigger problem.

"Dan Rather was "forced out of his anchor job after angering the White House…"

I'm trying to remember which foreign government accused Bush of using his presidential power to get Rather fired. Mapes AND that government aren't even using common sense with such a ridiculous charge. I mean, if the White House had the power to get Dan Rather off the air, it would have happened years ago!

A most excellent post.

This is exactly how they developed their conspiracy theory on how the Republicans stole the Ohio election. The MSM published, and broadcast, flawed polling data over and over to make it seem that the Republican candidates didn't stand a chance, which was the result they were hoping for.

When the actual results did not fit there expectations, they concocted the incredible conspiracy theory that the Republicans used CIA satellites to manipulate the voting machines. Their proof: (1) the manufacturer of the voting machines was a Republican, and (2) the results contradicted the polling data. I read several times, people saying, "How can so many polls be so far off?"

This is exactly what the demoRats and the MSM are up to right now. They are using a flawed poll on the President's popularity in order to (1) casts a cloud over his leadership with the hope of stopping further Republican wins in the 2006 elections, and (2) use as a basis of proof that the elections were rigged and should be investigated with the hope of naturalizing the winner's political power.

That should read:

use as a basis of proof that the elections were rigged and should be investigated with the hope of neutralizing the winner's political power.

Apparently, CBS News is sending that email to everyone who will be interviewing her before the interviews.

We can bet that they saw her glazed serial killer look on GMA and want the world to know that they fired her, and she was wrong.

Then she can deny that she was wrong and blame Buckhead and the rest of Jim Rob's "robots", aka Freepers like us for her downfall.

She like Blather had been lying for years and ruining people with their vicious lies and spins. Thanks to Buckhead and Free Republic, Mapes and Blather were exposed as liars. Liars who tried to electronically coup our president with her vicious lies.

Mary's mega-media tour, courtesy of Buckhead.

After that, I'd try looking for her on the Ward Churchill university speech circuit, as well as at ANSWER rallies and phony John Conyers "committee meetings". It actually could be kind of amusing watching her, Joe Wilson and Cindy Sheehan death-matching each other to grab the adoring media microphones and cameras.

I didn't get a chance to watch the O'Reilly interview last night, but I understand that he hit her with a few relatively hard questions (of course, making her look bad with questions is like shooting fish in a barrel). The sad part of it is, looking at that media schedule at the link above, that O'Reilly appearance was probably the toughest one she'll have to face. Tonight, for instance, she appears on Spitball; the only question there is, who will Chrissy swoon over more, Mary Mapes or Kristen Breitweiser? The only thing I know is that I won't be watching to find out!

CBS knows that Mapes is just a dreadful spokesperson for a point of view and a story that they still believe is true. Despite the red carpet tour and the adoring kid glove treatment of her by the MSM, she still comes across as a nasty, bitter loon. So CBS will issue that startement now to distance themselves from Mapes, and once her book hits the remainder bins they'll go about rewriting history to make her a hero and a martyr to CBS corporate spinelessness in the face of the unrelenting evil of Karl Rove and George Bush.

Yeah... Fox and Friends...Interviewer? E.D. Hill... What a simple minded puff piece. If you can't hit an "agenda driven" political operative who claims she had been attacked by conservative "hacks" with a decent probing question you should stick to food tasting street interviews.
