guess it is strange today to believe that a 20-week-old preborn is human, and even stranger to love it and to devise a way to grieve for it, since abortion is more acceptable with regards to the "handling" of a person that age.

I am not a Santorum constituent but if I were he would not get my vote. My husband and I are serious boaters and we rely on NOAA weather marine forecasts, as do tens of thousands of mariners in the US. Boaters are generally conservatives and Republicans, and this information has been in many boating magazines and publications. Many who I have talked to, in no way will support Santorum because of this ridiculous bill. It is one thing to pay .30 to .50 cents more for fuel than autos, but to have to pay for a public service that is vital to an industry and has been available for many years for free is a killer for any politician who would support it.
S.786 - Senate Bill to kill NOAA Weather Radio June 8, 2005. Senator Rick Santorum of PA has entered a bill, S. 786 in the U.S. Senate, which would end NOAA weather broadcasts on our VHF marine radios. The bill calls for no "Competition With Private Sector" which means the service would be provided by a commercial service, with of course a fee to us. Since AccuWeather is headquartered in PA, Senator Santorum is obviously acting at the behest of this company (as confirmed in an article of May 28 in The Washington Times) but at the expense of his own boating constituency and boaters nationwide. In fact, a $2000 donation from the Chief Executive of AccuWeather, Inc., was made to Santorum's Political Action Committee according to the article. The National Boating Federation (NBF), along with National Marine Manufacturers, Boat US, Aircraft Owner Pilots Association and others, is actively working to kill the bill. We see this as a major safety issue as the availability of the NOAA broadcasts affects our cruise planning, course selection and ultimately, safety of life at sea. Letters have been sent to Santorum and Senator Ted Stevens, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation that would hear the bill. We also have sent letters from major boating organizations that are members of NBF. Individuals should also write their Senators and express concern.

We all need to be concerned with the loss of an important public service, which could be replaced by a service of questionable value and increased cost.

Senator Santorum has heard the hue and cry from the boating community. To date, there are no co-sponsors of the bill and CS&T has not scheduled a hearing. Also, no companion bill has been introduced in the House. At this time, it appears our actions have been effective and the bill will probably die.

"Bush is driving conservatives away from politics. It's that simple ..."

Thanks. Nailed it. I thought I was just being cynical and paranoid.

Sorry to hear about that. Are you serious that FEMA handed out checks in the Galveston Bay area? I had only heard about the Beaumont area and north, where the central parts of the storm went over.

Thanks for the info. Being from King County, Washington, I no longer have any concept of how elections are supposed to work.

You got that right. Tom Ridge is rabidly pro-abortion.

Besides, his tenure as Homeland Security boss was a dismal failure.

Why run a failure, when you have an excellent conservative like Rick Santorum?

Ridge has always been a pro-abortion, tax-raising RINO.

as a senator, Ridge isn't going to decide anything regarding abortion.

who is more likely to support a conservative supreme court justice in the senate - Ridge, or a Democrat?

"guess it is strange today"

You know anyone else other than Santorum with such a photo on their wall?

If the word "strange" is loaded let's use "unusual."

And then you'd be in court for felony assault.

Look, I love ya, PD, but don't be a defeatist on these threads. It serves no purpose at all.

Thanks for the info.

No problem. We have "closed" primaries, only registered voters in the party can vote in the primary.

The state GOP tends to run a pretty tight ship and not waste money on primary challenges. That's why the Toomey challenge to Specter in the primary was so rare. Toomey had the entire establishment against him and only lost by a few points.

There is no such outsider to challenge Santorum this time.

Wow, it's rare to see someone directly contradict himself within two sentences.

Personally, I'd prefer to have a pro-life senator in office, but what do I know?
