I learned more from this post than from the previous dozen posts I've read. In clicking in the website, I saw that Kaine(D) had won the governorship, a win that has the 'Rats crowing that they are retaking the country and repudiate the Bush administration's policies. Then I look just below and see that the Lieutenant Governor AND the AG slots both went to Republicans. Did the MSM make ANY note of that? Does it not lend creedence to the idea that Kilgore just conducted a lousy campaign? No and yes, respectively, but only in light of this new information.

Damn those Diebold machines! Please, someone donate $25 to Bev Harris. That is all she needs to finally prove the republicans have been stealing elections.

the dems are still trying to steal it. The "re-canvassing" is now going on and McDonnel's lead has shrunk to 1,133. There will be a full re-count in December, and they just need to "find" 1 or 2 votes per precinct.

Dems' slogan: "it ain't over until we're ahead"

I find it interesting that folks will go to the polls and vote for a Dem governor yet vote for a Repub Lt. Governor and AG. Don't you find that peculiar? I wasn't impressed with Kilgore either but there's no way I would have voted for two other Repubs and then vote for a Dem governor.

From what I've read, his campaign was especially bad. I'm hardly concerned about "losing" this state though. LG is a fine stepping stone to the governorship. Look for the next election to bring a (R) into the column for ol' Virginny.

Lieutenant Governor elect Bolling received 67,000 votes more than Kilgore and AG elect McDonnell received 58,000 more votes than Kilgore. In 2001, Kilgore received more votes for AG than any other candidate for the top three offices including Gov elect Warner. Moreover, Kilgore's total votes in 2001 were greater than Kaine's wining total in 2005. Go figure.

Perhaps even more interesting is that after Election Day Tuesday, Republicans now hold more offices nationwide than before Tuesday, and Democrats now hold less offices nationwide than before Tuesday.

So how, again, was Bush/GOP rejected? Democrats were barely able to retain a Governorship in VA that they have held for 5 of the last 7 elections, Republicans in NJ came closer to winning the Governorship than Bush came to winning the state last year. With the exception of California, pretty much every Conservative ballot initiative passed and every Liberal ballot initiative defeated.

And all this happened at perhaps the weakest GOP point in ten years.

Is it just me, or is 2006 looking better now than before Tuesday? Imagine when Alito is confirmed, the State of the Union speech gives Bush/GOP a small bump, and the primary season begins nationwide -- where Conservative issues will be on the lips of every candidate in the running for a GOP nod.

If this is the best the Dems can do at our most vulnerable point, just wait until we regain the momentum in the Spring!!

My prediction for 2006: a net +1 in the Senate, net -1 in the House. Even break on Governorships. GOP still rules the world; and if Stevens or Ginsburg leaves the Supreme Court, Conservatives finally take the courts, too.

A net national gain for the GOP is a sign of weakness? Just wait till we're strong........! ;-)

The problem with Virginia right now is that the cities are going democrat while the counties are republican. I live in a county where the city is uber liberal and the county is conservative. Plus you have all of the northern virginia couties, Richmond, Virginia Beach etc. going democrat because of all the liberals moving in. I think Virginia will go blue in a few years much to my regret.

Kaine did a good job of pretending to be moderate. Same with the Dem AG candidate, same with Warner in 2001. The Dem for Lt. Gov. had a liberal track record she couldn't hide from.

Kilgore won big in 2001 because the Dems put up an obvious liberal against him.

So the good news is that Dems have to play moderate to win in Virginia. The bad news is they are getting good at it.

As of 4:37pm November 10th, 2005 it appears that with 100% of the vote from 2,426 Precincts reporting (un-official count) is as follows:

Attorney General

Candidate Party Vote Totals Percent
----------------------------------------------------------
R F McDonnell Republican 969,973 49.98%
R C Deeds Democrat 969,013 49.93%
Write Ins Various 1,773 0.99%
Total: 1,940,759

A 600 vote difference (0.05%) in favor of the Republican victor. Let's see if the Dems can steal this one...
