A Boeing 777 plane has landed at Heathrow Airport after completing a record-breaking non-stop flight.
Piloted by American captain Suzanna Darcy-Hennemann, the plane touched down in west London following a 12,000-mile easterly-heading flight from Hong Kong.
The plane, carrying 35 passengers, beat the existing non-stop passenger airline record of 10,823 miles achieved by another Boeing 777.
Painted in Boeing's distinctive blue colours, the aircraft touched down at 1.13pm UK time after a flight of 22 hours and 42 minutes.
Three Heathrow fire crews shot a celebratory water spray over the aircraft as it taxied to a halt after a journey of 13,422 miles.
I know all about twin engine etops, my airline just passed certification with their 757's about 2 weeks ago. We start Honolulu and Maui service in December, and we shaved about an hour off our Cancun flights.
Lots of pool work by the flight attendants.
This is a remarkable accomplishment for two engines. Of course no news from the MSM yet.
She's the chief pilot for Boeing, so it is only natural that she would get most of the pub.
There was no news from the MSM when they did a Paris to Buenos Aires nonstop on the A340.
BTW, next week the A380 is going to do several low passes over Sydney Harbor and the bridge for photo shoots, should look pretty cool. They have 3 A380's up and flying now.
Pretty spectacular! More than half way around the world and passengers saw the sun rise twice across the Atlantic. I wouldn't mind those bragging rights. LOL!

I don't find the A380 visually appealing at all.
It looks bulky and bloated.
Not graceful like the 747 or 777. Those are two beautiful machines.
My Dad did a stint with the Army in Okinawa in the late 50's and used to tell about those 36's shaking the walls when they flew over.
I need to see the 380 in person before I decide.
DHL is bringing ancient re-engined DC-8-62's in to my town every day now, great to see those oldies.
My favs are the 747-SP and the Constellation Super G
That's good to hear. I always thought it would resemble the Spruce Goose. LOL! I heard A380 #2 rolled out a couple weeks ago. Does it actually fly? If so, can't imagine the drag and fuel burn!
Oh, really!! That would mean, if they were successful in getting this regulatory restriction waived or lifted altogether, that their twin-engine airliners could compete directly with those Airbus 4-engine A-340's and A-380's, which would give the Airbus-driving airlines (Air France, Lufthansa) an instantaneous and severe migraine.
It would also vitiate one of the premises the Airbus 4-engine designs had been built on, and gut one of the main reasons for stepping up to an A-380. It would also tend to prompt a lot of trade-ins of older 747's.
This is a very significant piece of gut-fighting by Boeing. And a major screw job for Airbus if Boeing succeeds in getting over on regulatory. Now the frogs will be spreading the brown-bag money around in earnest!!
