ARVADA - The City Hall Complex of Arvada has been evacuated while police investigate a potentially dangerous situation.
A person in the building reported seeing a suspicious incident Thursday around 6:50 a.m.
The witness told police that a man drove into the complex, parked his car, grabbed a duffle bag and ran from the area. When police arrived, they found a propane tank in the car along with other suspicious materials.
The Jefferson County Bomb Squad was called to the scene, and the building was evacuated.
on FoxNews now.
Robot in parking lot to check out car with propane tanks
Middle school is across the street from where the car is parked.
A single tank. It is sitting in the back of the car. Robot has broken windows out.
Guy running with duffle bag is what triggered the call to police originally.
ARVADA, Colo. -- The Arvada City Administration Building was evacuated Thursday morning after the driver of a car carrying a large propane tank abandoned the vehicle near the building.
Police said the man grabbed a duffel bang and ran from the told 1986 Chrysler hatchback after parking it near the building shortly before 7 a.m.
Everyone in the building, including police, were ordered to leave.
The Jefferson County bomb squad was called to the scene in the 8100 block of Ralston Road.
The Arvada Post Office, next to the administration building, was also evacuated as a precaution and streets around the building were blocked off.
A small tractor-wheeled robot was used to approach the vehicle and fired a shot into a side window at about 9:10 a.m. A larger remote-controlled robot was on the opposite side of the car, using a camera to peer into the car.
Other municipal agencies in the Denver metro area were advised of the incident and told to be on the alert.
It was not immediately known why the driver abandoned the car and he has not been located

(AP) ARVADA, Colo. City Hall was evacuated and a bomb squad was sent to the scene after a car carrying at least one propane tank was parked near the building and the driver ran away, officials said.
City spokeswoman Maria VanderKolk said the car was left near an entrance leading to police headquarters and the driver fled carrying a duffel bag.
VanderKolk said the Jefferson County bomb squad was treating the situation "very, very seriously." She said she did not know whether the car contained other devices or wires.
VanderKolk said the car was discovered shortly before 7 a.m. and only a handful of people were in the building, mostly in the police offices. She did not know how many people were evacuated.
The driver of the vehicle was at large, she said.
No homes were evacuated, but nearby residents in this west Denver suburb were alerted by reverse-911, police spokeswoman Susan Medina said.
Busy day here in colorado..
BOULDER - An evacuation area of about two miles has been established after a chemical cloud was released Thursday morning.
The HAZMAT situation is near the IBM plant north of Boulder.
Buildings in the area have been evacuated, and all roads near the plant are being closed.
Police also have closed the Diagonal Highway near the plant in both directions.
Arvada is not also know as Littleton. They are two separate cities in the Denver MSMA, separated by Lakewood, and Wheatridge.
I just saw that. I live about 4 miles from the cloud situation. Dang.
By the way, a propane tank bomb is, reportedly, a fairly powerful device, and relatively easy to make.. Didn't the columbine guys have one set up that did not go off?
They are in the same county. I bet that is where people are associating the Littleton/Columbine connection. I heard John Scott do that on Fox News this morning.
"The HAZMAT situation is near the IBM plant north of Boulder."
I would imagine it would be at the Lexmark facility or the water treatment plant a mile down the road. They have lots of nasty stuff at Lexmark and the IBM Global Services facilities are next door.
The news just confirmed it is the Lexmark facility that had the "white cloud" over it.
They are both in Jefferson County, that is true, but they are about 30 miles apart. I lived in Lakewood for several years. and worked in Littleton, then Wheatridge.
OOOPS! BANG!
That picture is hilarious - if it was practice and not a live situation.
Man, I'm glad I don't work as a bomb disarming tech, LOL.
