As the French intifada spreads into its second week and across the country, the French government has a dilemma. To whom does it surrender?
French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin — whose name may one day be as synonymous with appeasement as Petain's is with collaboration — would like to make a deal.
His problem is finding Muslim "community leaders" who can stop the rioting. In communities where law and order are absent, it is thugs with guns who are in charge, not the voices of moderation, such as they are.
The rioting began Oct. 27th in the Paris suburb of Clichy sus Bois when two Muslim teenagers sought to hide from police in an electric power substation and accidentally electrocuted themselves. It has since spread to other Paris suburbs, to Paris itself, and now to dozens of other cities.
The remarkable thing about the spark that set off the rioting is that there were police in Clichy sus Bois for the youths to flee from. About ten percent of France's population are Muslims. The overwhelming majority live in concrete ghettoes like Clichy sus Bois, which the police as well as ordinary Frenchmen tend to treat as "no go" areas.
The result is these ghettoes are largely under the control of criminal gangs and religious extremists.
The news media have gone to considerable lengths to avoid mentioning the rioters are mostly Muslim, or to report that there is an anti-Western component to the violence. The rioters typically have been described as "French youths" who are upset by high unemployment and racial discrimination.

Unfortunately, it will have to go on a lot longer than it has before people understand and take it seriously. Look at our own 9/11. We have forgotten. The videos of planes flying into the Towers were quickly squelched, no videos of the beheadings, can't call a terrorist a terrorist, Sadam, who among other things, fought and invaded his neighbors, killed his own people, tried to develop nuclear weapons, gassed the undesireable members of his society, tried to assassinate a former President, is slowly being transformed into a man wrongly and illegally removed from his country, etc. etc. The list goes on and on and will continue to grow. We are so busy trying to ignore it away.

"Each religious community (millet) would enjoy the right to organize its social, cultural and educational life in accordance with its religious beliefs.
And the author believes that the French government may well capitulate to these Muslim demands, because at least the Muslims believe in something and most French don't believe in anything.
All of a suddent, French surrender jokes aren't funny anymore. IF they could accept little Islamic 'states within the state', this generation will have done far worse than the Vichy generation. They will be handing over parts of France, bit by bit. Then it would be just a matter of time watching the very fecund Muslims take more and more bits of France. And the really insane part of it is that the French would be expected to keep feeding and supplying all the material needs of the breeder Muslims whose offspring will then take more of their land!
Criminy, surely even the French aren't that spineless! They'd be surrendering to their national parasites, who will eventually destroy them.

It's not whether the Islamists will succeed. It is whether the West will fail. France has the ability to squash this uprising like a bug. But it apparently doesn't have the will.
Maybe the German ambassador could officiate as the French have a prior experience with them.
I'm interested in knowing their rationale behind their partition part.
The media is on the side of the rioting muslims, masquerading around as "young teenagers". well, yeah, they are young. Young enough to lock and load and pull the trigger, make IED/s etc... So, the media will champion their cause till the media itself is being directly targeted. Then, the truth will seep out.
A commenter on the Web log "Belmont Club" thinks this focus is a clever form of brinkmanship. Car burning is spectacular, but not serious enough to provoke lethal force, especially from a French government loathe to use it.
An awful lot of people do not understand this tactic, which is being used far more widely than most realize. Strain the limits, but do not break them - this baffles upstanding opponents who expect a fair knock-down fight.
Multiply so. They've already handed control over to the European Union.
Non-European immigrants have been segregated into walled ghettos and neglected by French authorities. These areas have been isolated enough, for long enough, with enough neglect (to wit: defacto autonomy) that they have come to view themselves as quasi-independent micro-states - and are now demanding formal recognition thereof, and (bizzarely) getting it.
It is in their islamic culture to create hostility to the nonbelievers, the infidals. It is written in their Koran. Try reading it sometime as it is also a political doctrine they preach and terrorize others with.
