Congresswoman: Three Al Qaeda Caught in U.S. After Crossing Border with Mexico
Wednesday, November 9, 2005 | Kristinn

Posted on 11/09/2005 4:49:04 PM PST by kristinn

Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) let slip a bombshell disclosure at a news conference today to announce a bill targeting states that allow illegal aliens to get drivers licenses.

During the Q&A with reporters, Myrick gave as a reason for proposing the bill the recent capture of three al Qaeda terrorists at the U.S.-Mexico border.

A check of Google News turned up no references to this incident, yet Myrick stated this was a 'given fact.'

No reporter asked her about this revelation, but it was noted at the end of a Charlotte Observer article by Tim Funk.

Two Representatives from North Carolina, Virginia Foxx (R) and Patrick McHenry (R) stood with Myrick at the press conference. Neither commented on her matter of fact statement.

Rep. Myrick's remarks can be heard online at her Congressional Website here. the statement is made at about 8:45 into the press conference.

A call placed to Myrick's office in D.C. was not answered as the office is closed for the evening.

Transcript:

"Our main concern is, who's in our state? I mean this is a critical issue today. I mean they just arrested down on the border, what a couple of weeks ago, three al Qaeda members who came across from Mexico into the United States. I mean that's a given fact. They were holding them in the jail down there."

But it immediately can be ascertained that there is something wrong about that picture. It is claimed it came from an Iranian man yet the writing in it is Arabic not Fears. Hence I would think that it is a fraud.

Well, you think wrong because the FBI validated it. It was found by Walter Kolbe, brother of US Congressman Jim Kolbe (R-AZ8), right where I said it was found.

Again, reality refutes your theory. I really can't say it any more plainly than that.

Those are small targets to Al Queda. But you are correct about them coming in where it would be least expected and that rules out the Mexican border.

Reality is that apparently this has no connection to terrorism or terrorists and your additions don't resolve the primary question wrt this diary: Why would an Iranian be keeping a diary in Arabic?

If this was a "given fact", it should also be a "given fact" that this would have been huge national news with a second theme of the perils of our porous borders.

I don't believe it. This never happened.

Why would an Iranian be keeping a diary in Arabic?

You'd have to ask him. Or the FBI. They still have the diary.

Did you notice the (sic) next to the term Arabic? Have you looked closely enough at the full-size picture to be sure that the script is not Farsi?

When I first posted the article 2 years ago, there was a lot of discussion about the language of the diary.

I don't have to since the story is obviously not accurate.

"AQ is much to smart for such a risky method of infiltration. It would use the Northern border if trying to come in illegally since it is far less risky and has a large support network of mohammedans in Canada to help."

Actually as far as I remember this was discussed and the "facts" about the whole matter have wandered all over the lot. Hence my bet is the whole thing is bogus.

None of those articles deal with the points I have made. Even if recruiting is going on in Latin America that does not mean AQ will try and use stupid methods when much easier ones are available. Canada probably would not even stop Osama from entering with a bomb.

I thought YOU said that would be the last place YOU would try and use? Major gas and oil pipelines and a majority of the nations oil refineries are SMALL targets? When we still haven't recovered from Katrina and Rita and Winter is coming on?

"So by your thoughts, Osama Bin Laden attacked America and killed thousands of people....because the US - Mexico border is - what - unpatrolled?"

No, since we now (post 9/11)have a no-fly list, and people have to have a passport to prove identity; those same terrorists would probably have to sneak across the border to get in. Why close one door and leave the other two wide open?

IMHO we have to start breaking up the cells of operatives who have been here legally for years - some of whom are now citizens - if we want to end the threat from Al Qaeda."

Look for them in Vegas, that last night.....

The issue here is Al Queda, not a border.

Isn't it true that thousands of iraqis were "relocated" to US soil following GW I by the first bush administration?

I believe that I read this somewhere.....

You seem quite knowledgeable, any truth to this?
