WAL-MART BANS CHRISTMAS: BOYCOTT LAUNCHED
Catholic League ^ | 9 November 2005 | William Donohue

WAL-MART BANS CHRISTMAS:

BOYCOTT LAUNCHED

A woman who recently complained to Wal-Mart that the store was replacing “Merry Christmas” with “Happy Holidays” received an e-mail response from Customer Service. It appears below in its exact form:

“Walmart is a world wide organization and must remain conscious of this. The majority of the world still has different practices other than ‘christmas’ which is an ancient tradition that has its roots in Siberian shamanism. The colors associated with ‘christmas’ red and white are actually a representation of of the aminita mascera mushroom. Santa is also borrowed from the Caucuses, mistletoe from the Celts, yule log from the Goths, the time from the Visigoth and the tree from the worship of Baal. It is a wide wide world.”

To which Catholic League president Bill Donohue says: “This statement was signed by someone called Kirby. When I read it, I thought he might be drunk. But I was wrong. We sent Kirby’s response to Wal-Mart’s headquarters only to find that Dan Fogleman, Senior Manager, Public Relations, agrees. After acknowledging that he read Kirby’s response, Fogleman said, in part, the following”:

“As a retailer, we recognize some of our customers may be shopping for Chanukah or Kwanza gifts during this time of year and we certainly want these customers in our stores and to feel welcome, just as we do those buying for Christmas. As an employer, we recognize the significance of the Christmas holiday among our family of associates…and close our stores in observance, the only day during the year that we are closed.”

Bill Donohue says: “It’s nice to know that Wal-Mart is closed on a federal holiday. Now here is why I am asking the leaders of 126 religious organizations that span seven religious communities to boycott Wal-Mart. Go to its website and search for Hanukkah and up come 200 items. Click on Kwanzaa and up come 77. Click on Christmas, and here’s what you get: ‘We’ve brought you to our ‘Holiday’ page based on your search.’ In other words, Wal-Mart is practicing discrimination.”

The point is that people have been decorating trees with silver and gold ornamentation since long before Martin Luther was even born. I'm well aware of what they were doing (Astoreth poles and such). Even just a few centuries after Martin Luther, there were people who considered the decorating of trees for "the Christ Mass" (Christmas to you and me) to be a pagan tradition. Why would they even come to this conclusion if there was not a historical track record, so to speak, for this?

Over the years, Christians have adopted and then "Christianized" many things and traditions that, frankly, would have likely shocked the Apostles and early believers. Does that mean that it is wrong in all cases? Probably not. It's all about where your heart is on the matter; who are you intending to honor?

Wal-Mart is growing rapidly worldwide. Its U.S. operations alone account for 10 percent of all U.S. imports from China.

Military Support--Last year, Wal-Mart partnered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation (VFW) to provide more than 900,000 Communications Kits that included free phone cards, writing paper, envelopes, and more so that servicemen and women could stay in touch with loved ones. The Company also made it possible for customers nationwide to send messages through in-store kiosks to support our military men and women. We have provided millions of dollars in financial aid to military family-support organizations and worked with manufacturers to supply clothing for the wounded and special-need items for the troops.

Wal-Mart donated $6 million to help build the World War II memorial in Washington D.C. while associates and customers raised an additional $8.5 million. There are patriotic accomplishment listed on their:

Whether you shop there or not is your freedom of choice; but you have not been given the facts on Wal-mart and perhaps already you have made up your mind. I do not shop there often as I don't do big stores; but they fill the need of many consumers and so more power to them.

They also have a truth page on their site which you and others might want to take the time to read and a movie coming out against a real Left wing Moore type director for which they have hired a War Press Room to counter.

You and I, by not shopping there, are playing right into the hands of those that want to see Wal-mart suffer financial and job losses- The same Unions that controlled mainstream elections on Tuesday pumping big money in several States even down into less noticed DA elections (upstate NY for example). Therefore, considering all the support by Wal-mart to our US military and their families in this time of war; I think I will be stopping in even though I am not a fan of Mega stores (in fact I hate to shop in Mega Super stores; but will frequent Sam's Club on occasion).

Morning Gabz.

Sorry I am just now getting back to you,but I had to leave after posting a few posts.

It is amazing to me,that people get all bend out of shape over this.

Happy Holidays is only a friendly greeting, that doesn't leave any Holidays out and it doesn't offend anyone.

Wal~Mart isn't the only retailer using this greeting.

LOL. On this thread, and reading your tag line, all I could think of was that "conservatives are cracking up, not down".

What about the call for a minimum wage hike? No, I think the signs are that Wal-Mart is caving into the left these days. Policies are a changing. Therefore, let the left devour them. I'm not wasting energy if they are going to cave on a boatload of stuff.

Let 'em boycott. Maybe there'll actually be room to push a cart in Walmart on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). It's so bizarre to see all those men waiting in line at 6am to buy electronic stuff. Last year, I stood behind a group of 4 women with walkie-talkies. Each one headed for a desired sale object and collected for the other three. It was quite an operation. Usually, I push the cart and my 25 yo daughter strikes out and brings things back. It's an amazing experience!

it really doesn't matter pal,

We ain't pals.

since most everything in wall mart is made in china

Incorrect, or alternately, a lie.

I don't support them anyway.

No problem for me.

You can all you want.

I support free enterprise. I have rarely shopped there. I'm not big on large crowded discount stores.

I wont

Goody, and...who cares?

It's a momentary lapse in judgement brought about by intense peer pressure from their liberal neighbors to "hate Walmart".

Of course not, nor is it anything new. I remember the "Happy Holidays" greeting from when I was growing up.

Why would you think that a Chicom retailer like Walmart should celebrate Christmas?

In the memorandum, M. Susan Chambers, Wal-Mart's executive vice president for benefits, also recommends reducing 401(k) contributions and wooing younger, and presumably healthier, workers by offering education benefits. The memo voices concern that workers with seven years' seniority earn more than workers with one year's seniority, but are no more productive.(good observation)

Mart Calls on Videomaker to Fix Errors in Trailer or Take it Down Trailer for New Greenwald Special Interest Video Makes Three Errors in Three Minutes http://www.walmartfacts.com/newsdesk/article.aspx?id=1448

How many people knew that WMT's average wage was double the minimum wage? Wal-Mart's average wage is around $10 (little under) an hour, nearly double the federal minimum wage.

I would not call caving with all they are putting into fighting that movie that is coming out in the Moore style..and the bucks they have paid out in hiring the names known behind the scenes in political campaigns. So Benefits, education perks count for nothing? See how the Union will benefit employees (sarcasm).

Your focus is narrow..take the blinders off and consider insurance, 401K, education benefits to attract the younger generation and see growth within. You see more and more today of top brass that started out at the bottom of the food chain in some of these big companies. McDonalds is one example. I have also e-mailed WM for the other side of the story on this Christmas issue with the Catholic groups. Guess I just like knowing both sides of a story rather than lynch the wrong person in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I don't think your post represents both sides. It is very one-sided.

Wal-Mart knowingly hires illegal aliens. They also caved to pc sexual orientation policies.

I used to always defend Wal-Mart. I'm not out to get them now. But if they get eaten by the left, you won't hear a peep from me in defense.

Great! Maybe people could post other such links to sources of God-centered items that can be meaningful Christmas presents.

I knew Sam Walton as a young child. He came to my uncles chicken farm outside Bentonville many times. He was a very nice and caring man.

My observation is that this Dan Fogleman is probably not of the Christian faith.

The ACLU is mostly Jewish in nature and this guys name and his actions seem Jewish based.

I have nothing against the Jewish faith and many of my best friends are Jews.

However, there seems to be a concerted effort to demean all traditional Christian values and it seems that Jews have taken a leadership role in that nefarious endeavor.

Not even the Muslims have the gall to openly oppose Christmas in this country.

Remember it isn't Christians that control the evil garbage coming out of Hollywood.

Thank you, I can't take all the credit though. I stole it from someone else (with their permission).
I've worn a flag pin on my pocket every day since 9/11 to remind myself every day to Never Forget, Never Forgive.

Ok, I have to step in here. The illegal aliens associated with walmart that I have seen in the news has been associated with contracting companies.

And, unfortunately, I have not worked for a large company in recent history that has not had spanish only speaking employees doing their cleaning, etc. Those employees work for a contracting company, not the actual large company.

It is wrong, but standard operating procedure in this country today. And if you are going to boycott every company that you perceive is doing that, I suggest you got into the back woods, grow your own food, produce your own heating fuels, make your own clothes, and turn off your elecricity & internet access, because I can guarantee you that those companies are associated with companies that have hired illegal aliens.

I didn't say I was joining the boycott. I'm just ditching my loyalty -- which was very strong. But I respect people who decide to boycott. I can't entirely boycott them, but I can cut way back. But if the left devours Wal-Mart, they will have themselves to blame. Yawwwwwwwwn! Appeasers are a dime a dozen. Someone will pick up where they leave off.
