Corzine elected governor of New Jersey

Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine (news, bio, voting record) was elected governor of New Jersey on Tuesday, defeating Republican Doug Forrester after an exceptionally nasty and expensive race, media outlets reported.

Corzine, a multi-millionaire and former Wall Street executive, and Forrester, a wealthy business owner, spent an estimated $72 million of their own money in campaigns marked by charges of corruption and infidelity, including the Forrester campaign's use of damning quotes by Corzine's ex-wife.

Thanks for the advice! Just curious, what is wrong with West TN? I was targeting my area around Knoxville, is that a good area or not?

Maybe the (D) is enough for some people.

Much the same as how the (R) means we can't criticize W's out-of-control spending or Bigger Government social plans....

I'm depressed.

Me too.

If Republicans in New Jersey can't defeat someone like Corzine-or that fossil Lautenberg-then I have difficulty envisioning them being able to defeat any stiff the Dems choose to put up in the future.

There are more Republicans in North Jersey than in South Jersey. The only Republican county in South Jersey is Cape May.

Does Corzine get to appoint his own successor now?

did you see the blowout in Nassau county? Peter King is going to have a tough race if they can find a decent Dem to run against him.

yup. and when Lautenberg retires, he gets that pick too. NJ will have two senators, neither of whom were elected by the people (likely Codey and Menendez).

I echo the sentiments of an earlier comment posted to this thread.

Why would someone prefer running a milquetoast Republican candidate who will lose by ten points, instead of a principled conservative, who might lose by a slightly larger margin?

Sorry, I was trying to agree with you.

Libs are party over principle. That should come as no surprise. I happen to hold us to higher standards.

Some fellow FReepers are saying the same about us in CA. Like we can up and leave are families and friends. Some of us actually want to stay in the game and not cry and run away.

What can I say ... there are
in every political persuasion. We've got too much at stake here and we're not cowards as they are ... heck they might as well move out of the U.S. and put white flags on their measly luggage. They sicken me MORE than Corzine.

Yup ... I hear ya.

Some parts are solid GOP. The arm pits are not.

It truly sickens me to KNOW that we will have OOLDES of tax increases to fuel more socialism and irresponsibility here. Corruption ... I can't tell you my true thoughts on that or I'd be banned ... suffice to say and putting it mildly that sickens me too.

Why not? The (R) is enough for others.

So, you walk into the voting booth, who do you pick, Forrester or Corzine?

And don't even blather on about third party. You might as well stay home.
