I was hearing a very lively radio ad campaign down here in Southside. It was pretty wild. It covered borders, abortion, gun rights, the death penalty, and taxes.
And from what I gathered, Kaine is as phoney as a three dollar bill. "I'm against the death penalty, but I'll enforce it." Why does he want to be governor if he has to nod for every execution? Pretty weak set of morals, IMHO. It's like saying you love crack, but you'll be a great sheriff. Ah well. Whatever.

Kaine's a liberal Democrat. One of the first things he'll want to do is raise taxes, so he can redistribute the wealth.

This election had zero to do with illegal immigration, but thanks for spamming your pet issue.

Yup. CA is bracing for a sweep defeat of Arnold's reform agenda in a move that boggles the mind and shows just show far the public employee unions are from even "mainstream" liberal democrats.
Even the L.A. Times came around on a couple of his reforms. When you can't get something passed proposed by a "moderate" Republica, supported by conservative legislators, right-wing talk radio and endorsed by liberal newspapers... your state is ****ed.

Mark Robert Warner is a Democratic politician and the current Governor of Virginia. As he closes in on the final months of his Gubernatorial term , Warner's poll ratings indicate that he is the most popular Virginia Governor in a generation in a state that traditionally voted for the opposite party.

The "base" in North Virginia is increasingly liberal. The bureaucrats are moving across the Potomoc to get away from Maryland taxes.Actually, Maryland is taxed lower than VA nowadays, especially if you live in Fairtax / South Massachusetts. I almost cross the Potomac to Maryland to escape the tax levels. As I live close to the bridge, I buy my gas, groceries, and dine in the relative tax haven of Maryland. That's what's sad about what's happened to Virginia.

Tomorrow, the MSM will be in full-bore spin cycle, with lead-in lines like "Is this the end of the Republican Party?" or "Are we seeing the death throes of the Bush machine?" Lots of analyses on "The Today Show" with the usual gang of idiots. Katie will be in her best fall colors.

Think of this though: Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arizona which are strong red states have Dim govenors.

I agree with Larry Sabato that this is bad news for George Allen's 2008 chances. I doubt it, whether tim kaine had won or lost it woudlnt have really been blamed on mark warner since it wasnt mark warner running. Same goes for Allen, allen wasnt running so it doesnt really effect his chances since it doesnt change who he is. This whole proxy thing is just something political junkies like sabato tries to tie together just for the sake of it. Though one thing does come from this is that Warners prospects do go up, Allen's dont necessarily go down. Warner goes up becomes dems are convinced that he can flip a bunch of red states now, Allen's doesnt really change since it wasnt his man directly on the ticket(ie not his lt gov ala warner). Besides, warner's been out there campaigning for kaine from the very beggining, allen only started aggresively coming in toward the end when kilgore started trailing.

"compared him to Hitler in on commercial." No, he didn't.
Sheesh.
At a debate Kaine would not say Hitler deserved the death penalty. Kilgore referred to that in an ad.
What was bad was that Kaine then put out an ad that made it sound like Kilgore was comparing him to Hitler and "Catholic-bashing"- and Kilgore did not respond!

Glad you mentioned Reagan. Thinking back, with Reagan in mind, I now recall NOT hearing something: no promise to cut taxes. Duh!

From my perspective just across the border, Kilgore came off as someone who wasn't likable, was meanspirited, and never really showed an agenda outside of the immigration issue. It was a poorly run campaign. Kaine didn't put out many ideas of his own, but didn't go quite as negative and I think that in the end is what saved him. In a race between two unlikeable and mediocre candidates, the one who comes off as more of a jerk will lose more often than not. I'm glad I wasn't a VA voter.
