This does not look good for 06.The GOP needs to find the conservative agenda it came to power on in 94.This needs to be a lesson.

ELectronic voting in 90% of the precincts makes counting a cake walk.

"many times red states will have blue govs."
And vice-versa. California is about as blue as it gets, and we've had Republican governors: Reagan, Dukmejian, Wilson, Schwartzenegger.

I agree with Larry Sabato that this is bad news for George Allen's 2008 chances.
To: BransonRevival
Calm down. Two Democrat governors are about to be replaced by two more Democrat governors. This election has absolutely no bearing on the national scene.
To: hsalaw
California was red at the presidential level from 1968-1988 though.

The same thing happened in '01 and the Republicans were able to rally in '02. Kaine is not going to have an easy time governing as the legislature is Republican controlled.

That is what happens when the base is not excited. This does not have to be a negative for us.We (Conservatives and Republicans) can learn from this and make sure it never happens again. We need to base our whole party and platform on what Mike Pence is doing in the House and what Tom Coburn is doing in the Senate.

Exactly better tonight than in 2006

Unless he follows the Warner model and governs like a Republican.

I agree. The conservative turnout was lousy!!! GW Bush better get in gear quickly, and start fighting head to head with the Democrat scum. If he doesn't, things will go from bad to worse. Plus, Kilgore was not the best candidate in the world.

If the voters really were fed up with republicans and hated Bush they would toss Bloomberg out of liberal NYC. Bloomberg will win by 30 points. A huge embarassment for the dems.

I think you've hit on something. His ad's were very harsh attacks. I think they backfired.

"Kind of funny, but I'd rather have RINO Bloomberg as mayor rather than a LIBERAL DEM as my governor."
I dunno, that is a tough one.Since it is NYC I guess I can live with the RINO.

nutmeg,
In My Humble Opinion, it was the dumbest campaign I think I've ever seen. Kilgore spent all his ad money talking about how Kaine wouldn't enforce the death penalty and even compared him to Hitler in on commercial. Whoever he paid for the ad campaign (his brother??) needs to never work in advertising again. An awful campaign.

His ads were pretty universally hated in Northern Virginia, a place where I know a lot of people. This is no suprise to me at all.

Bloomberg is a liberal dim.
