TOPEKA, Kan.-New science standards for Kansas' public schools, criticized for promoting creationism while treating evolution as a flawed theory, won approval Tuesday from the State Board of Education.

The board's 6-4 vote, expected for months, was a victory for intelligent design advocates who helped draft the standards and argued the changes would make teaching about evolution more balanced and expose studels teach science.

As a college-educated engineer and a Christian, I am appalled at the idea that Kansas is doing this mainly because it demonstrates a more fundamental lack of understanding about these very basic ideas.

Belief: any cognitive content (perception) held as true; religious faith

Based on this, evolution is a theory. CS and ID are beliefs.

I'd say that's over the line. I didn't know science showed that some races are superior to others. You assert it does. Where's your evidence for this vile assertion.

It is you who used the term "superior". I said that the races differ in biological/scientific aspects. And I believe that God endowed men/women from every race with the same kind of soul and that all men are made in image of God.

It is the Christian RELIGION which asserts the inherent dignity and equality of ALL men. For godless person who "believes" in science people are just animals or biochemical soulless machines.

What do stamps have to do with ID or evolution. Here's some of the science that was somehow happening w/out the evolution theory. Dutch amature microscope builder Anton Van Leeuwenhoek was the first to see Microorganisms in detail. The microscope he used to accomplih this was of his own design and involved careful manipulation of the specimen as well as careful focusing.

* Leewenhoek called these tiny organisms "little animalicules" and wrote his findings to the The Royal Society of London which subsequently tested and approved his findings.

* The 19th Century was the beginning of microbiology as we know it. However it was not until the end of this century, that the field was truley accepted. This delay was due to the lack of advancement in the field of microscopy.

* The advancements in this field led to two major questions: 1.Does spontaneous generation occur? 2.What is the nature of contagious disease?

That is right. The Christian (medieval Roman Catholic) faith in God given laws of nature is what gave actual beginning and to the science. Foundations are often different from what is built on them. But what is even more often when the foundation is removed the building collapses.

I strongly object to your implication that science is racist. Modern biology, anatomy, and comparitive genomics show that the differences between individuals is superficial. As a species, do not have a great deal of genetic variation. The lengths to which people will go to smear science never fail to amaze me.

If biology is not a natural science, if biology is uniquely at the whim of a capricious intervener, then it is stamp collecting. If we cannot discern a chain of causation, we are just collecting unrelated facts.
