BUFFALO NY--A pregnant woman was arrested Sunday after she left her four young children home alone to attend her own baby shower.
Lillie P. Maxwell, 26, of Buffalo, was charged with eight counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.
Her children, who range in age from 5 months to 11 years old, were left in an apartment strewn with rotting food, open liquor bottles and decaying uncooked beef in the kitchen sink, police said.
Her 22-month-old son suffered from a possible abdominal hernia and was taken to a hospital, police said.
Police said the children were so cold they raised the heat themselves, placing it at 80 degrees.
Maxwell was arrested when she returned from the shower. She is being held on $2,500 bail.
26 years old, with an eleven year old child. Sheesh.

Youngest child is 5 months old, and she's pregnant again. I hope all five of the children find permanent adoptive homes quickly.

Sorta like, by #5, you should have all the baby stuff you need by now :)

Is it customary to have a shower for each child?
It's like having a bachelorette party for your 4th wedding - kind of loses it's charm, I would think.
On a seperate note - I simply cannot fathom how some people, especially with children in their care, can willingly live in such squalor. It would seem to me that there's a natural instinct to disregard one's own filth - let alone the maternal instincts of defending & protecting your offspring.
Of course, in this woman's case, I'd suspect a steady regimen of drugs and alcohol has dulled her instincts and sense of right vs. wrong.
$10 says her laywer claims she's messed up becasue "the system let her down" or some such squawkboxery
I hope she got some cute stuff at the shower
11 years old! To complete the cycle, in 4 short years, Mom would no doubt be Grandma.

Strange how the worst of mental midgets are as fertile as the Nile and many women who could be great parents can't conceive a child....
It's more a celebration of an increase in the family by then - pretty much all I've seen given is stuff like diapers, baby shampoo, etc. Of course by #5 you may have worn the stroller out & need a new one.
