The Army is abandoning mixed-sex training units because too many female recruits are getting injured trying to keep up with their male counterparts.
From next April, women will be placed in their own platoons and although the training regime will remain the same, it will be conducted at a pace 'sustainable and commensurate with their physical profile'.

Dupe from yesterday, so before it starts:
1. It's the Brits, not the Americans.
2. The US Army didn't go out and ask for inter-sex training, feminysts in Congress DEMANDED IT and won.
The American Army shows common sense as it acknowledges the innate physical differences between men and women.
What is this world coming to?
Hopefully the enimy will honor these requirements...BUT..I kinda F'en doubt it....
Wish I'd seen your comment before posting.
Upon reading the headline, after clicking on the link, I found myself praying "Oh PLEASE don't be the US Army...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE..."
Alert the Nobel Prize committee!
Why not?
When I saw this yesterday, I was momentarily elated.
This was followed by a deep sense of loss.
My Army made a mistake over two decades ago and it was immediately proven to be just that.
Time to correct our mistake.
Same as in marriage.
Hey wenches...shut your pie holes and go home.
At least shut up.
Just STFU.
Normal people don't care how you feel.
If a man thought and acted like a woman, they could easily and legally be comitted to a mental institution. All those delusions of grandeur, selfishness, control-freakiness combined with helplessness (unless there is a carload of cops around).
Well, can you really be surprised by a difficulty immediately meeting standards?
Ever watch The Biggest Loser on NBC? The guys on the show always drop weight the fastest in the first few weeks, and then plane off later. The women work just as hard doing the same exercises, but lose weight much slower in the beginning. It's just the way women lose weight vs. the men.
So, consider if women enter boot camp and their exercise regiment is drastically changed. In 3 months, the women are not going to be able to match the muscle gain made by men doing the same exercises. That doesn't necessarily mean that the women can't meet the same standards, just that perhaps a different approach is needed. Sure, sure, some of us are never going to lift a Volvo or run like Carl Lewis, but it doesn't mean we can't meet required, and appropriately high, standards.
I think women should be included in areas of combat or operations that they are suited for. I think all female sniper teams/squads/platoons would be brilliant. Women in the military have to deal with a lot of harrassment, do you think any man would screw with any woman on that team? The Russians found female snipers highly effective, and the US has found the same results. Same goes for women pilots and those on subs.
I like the idea of training seperately in some ways. Yes, you need to train together, too, so that you don't divide a unit, or alienate one side into irrelevance; however, training that is gender specific makes sense. Why waste your time training the wrong way? Accept skill differences and limitations and put the energy into good training.
okay, so that's my really long insomnia driven comment.
Eighteen year old females should be registering for the Draft. Don't you agree, GovGirl?
In the original thread (posted yesterday), I freely offered that Army GOs should have stood up to Pat Schroeder and her ilk. Very few did and we've suffered for it.

Sun Tsu would have put all women in 100% female regiments. This could work out nicely. The male and female regiments could run exercises against each other and I suspect the female formations would be very formidable. An Amazon Corps, fast and deadly. Merciless specialists of war with and to the knife.
In other news... "The US's adversaries have decided to only use female soldiers when confronted by US female soldiers, so as to minimize US casualties, due to male soldiers being too rough..."
And with that head start, the top woman runner only finished 11 seconds behind winner of the marathon.
