NEW YORK (Reuters) -- It took Natasha a day trip to Moscow to find the American husband she had dreamed of. It took the next six years to get out of the nightmare that followed. A music teacher from central Russia, she was one of 200 Russian women who patiently lined up at a Moscow restaurant to meet 10 American men at a gathering hosted by a mail-order bride agency. She spoke no English but immediately caught the eye of one of the men, 16 years her senior. He was handsome and said he wanted the same things she did: a loving family and children. They went to museums and the theater with an interpreter, and he started the paperwork to bring her to the United States as his wife. The fairy tale ended eight months later. Natasha, who would only be identified using a pseudonym, had barely set foot in the United States when her new husband began to abuse her sexually, disappeared for weeks at a stretch, threatened anyone who tried to befriend her and forced her to sign a post-nuptial agreement. Thrown out of their house after two years of abuse, Natasha was left to fend for herself in an unfamiliar country with minimal English skills and no legal documents to work. 'Expensive toy' "He told me I was the most expensive toy he ever bought," said Natasha,

Oh yeah!!!! I've been there! Nothing like paying a woman a compliment and she winds up in tears because she didn't understand the little nuances of English and then I'm apologizing profusely for saying something I thought was charming in the first place.
Actually, some of these Ukraine girls are kind of cute; I ought to look into this!
I've heard Yoshkar-ola.com is a good one, there is one from Volgograd that is good also but I forget the name. I'd avoid anything in Moscow or St Peterburg. Most women who are able to afford living in Moscow have pretty good prospects there, few are looking to move abroad, those that are have other motives than finding love.
Many times Russians and other gals find a way to get rid of the marriage and husband. Threat by Russian thugs can do the trick. My friend was offered $25,000 to marry a Chinese woman. He turned it down because he felt he would somehow become enmeshed with the Chinese gangs here. All they have to do is demand the return of the $25,000 after the marriage takes place or you get mutilated. Who wants to have to look over his shoulder? Same for the Russians. Marry the wrong girl and you are toast if you don't accommodate the thugs that come with her
Once you get past the first few paragraphs, the CNN story is almost complinetary of the process.
I've met some Russian girls over the internet and even spoke with two by phone. Guys who jump to marriage without really knowing who they are marrying are getting what they deserve. If you invest some actual time in the relationship first, one-on-one without buffers or intermediaries, you can spot the sincere ones from the golddiggers. It's very important that she have a good command of English if you expect her to assimilate in the U.S.
I'm not convinced the story in this article is any more unusual than many that don't involve "Russian brides". We all seem to want to marry our ideals not the reality and believe in things that, in retrospect, were hardly believable. When reality comes, many just can't handle it.
He he he, most people laugh at first, then one of them catches their eye...
It's somewhat more unusual. Most American women are able to understand their husband's language and can get an inkling whether they're mate is sincere. This girl really should have picked up more English before making up her mind, but a lot of these girls figure all American guys are honest, and looking for a real relationship, the agencies tell em the same thing, they don't have a clue till they step off the plane.
It's great if you can find the right one. I'm addicted to young Asian women and finely found this young honey.
oh my
I found the phrase "poor baby" doesn't go over very well.
Don't do that, I've already purchased my airline tickets! ;-)
Seriously, I am a bit nervous. I'd be in complete denial if I wasn't. Lately I've had thoughts wondering am I crazy? What am I doing? Am I in waaaaaay over my head? It will definately be a challange. If I don't do it I will know with absoulte certainty that I will regret it. I do like this woman.
If it works out, wonderful. If it doesn't than my marriage would be no different from about 50% of the marriages where both parties were American.
Find happiness where you can, is my (unsolicited) advice.
Best of luck.
The problem is, a really beautiful Russian woman will rapidly realize once she gets here how much more social value she has in the US than she ever had in Russia - since America puts beautiful women on a pedestal and empowers them like no other nation on Earth. There is no way the relationship will last unless the two aren't all that far apart in looks and background - an albino walrus isn't going to marry a "10" and keep her, no matter what, any more than he could attract and keep an American "10". A fairly good looking, successful American man, on the other hand, could manage to land and keep a stunning Russian wife...but such men usually don't have as much motivation to look overseas.
One of my employees recently met a Filipina woman online and married her. He had been divorced twice, and having met and enjoyed the company of several Filipina women in the office, he decided he might like to test the waters over there. He is certainly no "10", but he is a honest man with a good sense of humor. And his new wife is no "10", either, but she seems to have a good heart and to genuinely love him. So far they are very happy. Had he gone over there and come back with a Filipina "10", he wouldn't be able to keep her - but his expectations were realistic and the results have been very good for him so far.
oh my
Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
I presume you mean, "shipping container."
Those folks will probably have better luck in abroad than America.
The only reasonable way to do it is on eBabe.
"Cold? Russian women can take cold. Are you kidding?"
Good point. I think I might have to look into this....
