French rioters open fire on police, 10 hurt

GRIGNY, France, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Rioters fired shots at police in an 11th night of riots in France on Sunday, injuring 10 policemen, two of them seriously, police said.

Some 200 youths were lobbing stones and other objects at police in Grigny, south of Paris, a police spokesman said, adding that some of the rioters had fired at officers with shotguns, hitting 10 policemen.

Two officers were being treated in hospital, one with lead shot wounds to the throat, the other with wounds to a leg.

Asked whether the rioters could have killed someone, the spokesman said: "Probably not at this distance, but they could have caused bad injuries, or turn one of the officers blind."

The fresh violence came just hours after President Jacques Chirac vowed to restore order, making his first public comments since the riots started in Paris's poor suburbs on Oct. 27.

"The Republic is quite determined, by definition, to be stronger than those who want to sow violence or fear," Chirac said after a domestic security council met to respond to the violence in which thousands of cars have gone up in flames.

"The law must have the last word," Chirac said.

Rioting began with the accidental electrocution of two youths apparently fleeing police. Their deaths ignited frustration among ethnic minorities over racism, unemployment, police treatment and their marginal place in French society.

The riots have spread from Paris's bleak suburbs to other French cities. Towns such as Toulouse, Nantes and Strasbourg were hit by violence on Sunday.

I haven't seen a single report of car casualities tonight

Over 500 cars and buses so far tonight, according to El Mundo.

Hmmmm! That's rather interesting. They have rules of engagement for riots? How civilized! LOL!

"The law must have the last word," Chirac said.

Now he's done it! Why, he "provoked" them, almost as much as Sarkozy did!

Per various articles:

'Tough talk' provokes them:

Police cars with their lights and sirens provokes them;

"Ignoring them provokes them;

The police, keeping up the daily scores that appear to be egging on rioters...".

Looks like what really provokes them is that they are ragheads, and we're not, but we're still breathing in spite of that little 'defect'.

How come the police aren't responding to this? Are they armed with spitballs or something?

The problem is, if the police were carrying guns, when shot at they'd drop them and run. The mohammedans would then retrieve them and go looking for some more police who still had guns and repeat the process.

You could sense his bitterness when he lost his bid for the 'Rat nomination back in... what was it, '80 or '84? It was clear he was thinking, "if only we had the control of Pravda, we could put the kiebash on this Chappaquiddick thingie. I've been robbed of my birthright! Robbed, I say!!"

>>Memo to France - ignoring this won't make it go away.

It amazes me how many idiots out there seem to think that ignoring reality insulates them from the consequences of ignoring reality.

If you don't stop shooting at us we shall be forced to arrest you and actually have trials -- Chirac.

I believe the way to their hearts and minds is through the forhead and breastbone.

...some of the rioters had fired at officers with shotguns, hitting 10 policemen. How many of these "rioters" were arrested? And these 'rioters' are still up and walking while policemen are in hospital? La France est perdue!

And you can understand his bitterness. Dreaming of becoming the Fattest Dictator in the World, he was denied it all just because of killing a single girl... when everywhere else dictators are applauded for all the killing they do. Fat Ted was robbed. It's one of the brutal realities of America.

It appears the French "liberal" intelligensia fear citizens taking actions to defend themselves and their property more than they fear the destruction of on-going riots.

Published in the BBC, according to:

"Liberation [a French newspaper] calls for greater political continuity on law and order. The paper warns that people's concerns over whether the state can still guarantee public order could turn into "panic" in the face of a "growing number of extreme acts of violence".

"And when people feel abandoned like this, it is to be feared that they will show individual or collective reactions aiming to defend their immediate safety through any means necessary," it says."

What? France has nothing equivalent to the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment guaranteeing citizens' rights to self-defense? Merde alors!

""The law must have the last word," Chirac said."

What? The law of the jungle? If the last word is the natural law of "survival of the fittest" then that dynamic excludes the survival of Chirac, the French government and its vast bureaucracy. Furthermore, when "rabble" prove themselves to be "rabble", then the TRUTH is...they are "rabble." (Ref: Sarkowsky)

I hadn't thought of it in those terms, but so true... so true...
