Mark Steyn: Wake up, Europe, you've a war on your hands
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | November 6, 2005 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 11/06/2005 3:14:50 AM PST by Puzzleman

Ever since 9/11, I've been gloomily predicting the European powder keg's about to go up. ''By 2010 we'll be watching burning buildings, street riots and assassinations on the news every night,'' I wrote in Canada's Western Standard back in February.

Silly me. The Eurabian civil war appears to have started some years ahead of my optimistic schedule.

Time to bring the word "Crusade" back out of mothballs.

It'll be here in Toronto and Montreal before the end of 2006. The US better look to its border crossings with the provinces of Ontario and Quebec; it's already pretty far advanced in both major cities.

So far, besides trying to wake up the Canadians who vary between stupefied and terrified, we Expats are sitting in the grandstand at a NA$CAR race waiting for the inevitable 25 car smash-up and hoping none of the flying debris comes up here where we are.

They're in Brussels, where Belgian police officers are advised not to be seen drinking coffee in public during Ramadan...

Isn't that something.

How do the cower?

That would be akin to telling police not to eat meat in front of Catholics during Lent.

We, the rest of the world, have only three choices: submit, fight and win, or die.

Something familiar about that line...

"Does anyone not believe that Winston Churchill was one of the greatest men of the 20th century."

He is the creator of my tag line.

The good news, if there is any, is that the islamofacists seem to have jumped the gun. They have awakened their enemy before they have the strength to win.

It doesn't mean they will lose, but they will not win quickly or easily.

I think there are a lot of nervous democrats in the U.S. right now. They have bet their political future on painting Bush as a psycho warmonger. The French were oh so sophisticated when they avoided the Iraq war.

If we get out of this alive, the attempt to teach Arabs about democracy will look like genius.

It appears that the Liberal Democrats think appeasement is the answer. If you don't believe me, as John Kerry and the rest of his cronies. They all want to abide by the UN, they think it is great and the only answer to the World's problems.

"on topic"

Your "tagline" is of immense importance to all of us.
We wake each morning and ask for devine guidance in keeping "on the beam" in tracking your tagline.

Thanks for all you do.

Excellent rule of thumb!

Q: "How much ammo should I have on hand?"
A: "Enough to burn out every barrel you've got."

It's not an unreasonable/absurd amount.

Any Jewish citizen of France who remains in that country deserves what he or she gets (though the same doesn't apply to minor children forced to remain with their blinkered parents).

French Jews have been fleeing the country for several years now. IIRC, the PM of Israel issued a public statement last year inviting French Jews to seek refuge in Israel, provoking much protest from the French government.

I don't know who said it, but he was very prescient (paraphrase): Nazism will rise again in Europe. Not in Germany, but in France.

I was wondering if anyone would "get it". But for my visit to Normandy recently, I wouldn't have gotten it either.

Interesting link. His insights into the Indian conflicts are priceless--you just can't get that from the MSM.

I remembered the quote from "The Longest Day".

Full Disclosure: Sean Connery had a bit part in it, as did Gert Froebel. And just as in Goldfinger, they were on opposite sides. :-)

I wouldn't be as concerned about Canada, to be honest, we are far more American than European, regardless of how much we try to deny that. We have under 500,000 of these guys here, and I'll tell you one thing, we won't tolerate this crap, I tell you that. Real Canadians might be somewhat passive, but if these sh*ts try that crap here, they will find it won't be that easy.
