PARIS, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Schools were torched and more than 600 cars set on fire in cities across France in a tenth night of rioting in poor suburban areas that went into the early hours of Sunday, the Interior Ministry said.
Police ranks were beefed up across France and in several Paris suburbs as the continuing violence put added pressure on the government to act quickly.
Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin also summoned eight key ministers and a top Muslim official to his offices on Saturday as he sought to chart an end to the violence.
"We are trying to be firm and avoid any provocation," Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said following the meeting.
In Saturday night's rioting, police said 607 vehicles were set alight, with more than half outside the Paris region.
Two schools were set ablaze in the Paris suburb of Essonne, but no one was reported hurt, the Interior Ministry said.
The violence has been seen as the expression of pent-up anger by youths, many Muslims of North African and black African origin, at police treatment, racism, unemployment and their marginal place in French society.
A number of public and commercial buildings were targeted, authorities said. In Evreux in Normandy, a mall was set on fire, burning down more than 50 vehicles while a post office and two schools were also set alight...

France and Eurabia is burning. The European Union did not heed the warnings of the Religion of Peace at their own peril.
When will the appeasement begin?
BURN BABY BURN!
It has been 10 days now. It is obvious the French authorities don't want to draw blood but c'mon now, this is getting ridiculous. The French still outnumber the Muslims ten to one and they have firepower. The French could end this thing in a few hours if they really wanted to.
Dammit! I gotta fly into Ch. de Gaulle next week. Freakin' do something already! Damn French! ARGHH!!!
In judging the French, we must not be too harsh. They do not operate on Anglo-Saxon time, which means that doing something 10 days after rioting has started is acting quickly as far as the French are concerned. At least that is what the waiter told me the last time I went to a French restaurant.
"We are trying to be firm and avoid any provocation,"
More like when will the appeasement end?
The French and their leaders are pussies. I expect this to last 2 weeks at a minimum.
This has shaded of David Dinkins allowing the Crown heights riots to run rampant.
If Rudy Giuliani was Rodolphe Guilliame, this would have ended the first day.
Hmmm... Firm but avoid any provocation. (LOL!!)
Amazingly, the person making the above statement (Sarkozy) is the French "law and order" guy. The rest of them think he's too tough!
What Sarkozy hasn't figured out yet is that merely existing as a non-Mooslime is "provocation" in itself.
He should stop worrying about providing the Death Cultists and figure out a way to remove them from France.
The uncivilized Muslim barbarian is at the throat of the overcivilized secular effete Frenchman and the outcome isnt going to be pretty.
I had hoped, really hoped, that once the rioting spread from the ethnic ghettos into the ethnic French part of Paris, French authorities would start cracking heads. I know French history but I couldn't imagine their pussification was so entrenched. It appears I have been sadly mistaken.
Might as well burn the schools. Doesn't sound like they're being used anyway.
It already has, the french apparently don't own bullets.
Hey Jacques, call the UN, don't call us.
They will be missing the Nazi occupation before to long.
I wonder if they'll still be trying to avoid provocations after these thugs torch Notre Dame. I've been there. A beautiful cathedral and a very inviting target for the Jihadists.
Multiculturism is just great, isn't it?
Maybe the french need some sensitivity and diversity training. Isn't that the liberals answer to everything?
