Eleven cars were torched inside the city of Paris early Saturday as urban unrest spread from the northeast suburbs, a police official said.
The violence reached across France, extending south to resort cities on the Mediterranean.
By 1 a.m., at least 546 vehicles were burned, 11 of them inside Paris, said Patrick Hamon, spokesman for the national police. The overall figures were expected to climb by daybreak, he added.

This is completely surreal. I'm trying to imagine how an outbreak of left-wing violence in the suburbs of NYC would be handled as it threatened to encrouch on NYC itself. Imaging a wall of cops on horses, black helicopters, barricades, tear gas fired into scurrying crowds. I'm thinking NYC cops would win that hands down without even the degradation of asking the Governor for National Guardsmen with M16's as backup.
Is France this third world already?

10 days of rioting and they haven't blamed Bush yet???
What gives?

Why don't they forget PC and stop this? The same reason the French did not back the Iraq War. The current French ruling elite are aligned with those causing the terrorism. Muslim thugs have compromised their government. Thats why they offer excuses for such barbaric behavior. The only hope for France may lie with the 'French Resistance'. Chirac should be impeached for allowing this to continue, that is if the French have the ability. If the left within the US wanted Bush impeached over the way he handled New Orleans, what about the way Chirac is handling the original Orleans.

His mother is Greek...of course! Right you are...ought to provide him with an innate sense of how to defend Christendom. Bred in the bone, as they say.

I haven't seen any French language textbooks lately. I'd imagine the characters are not just "Marie" and "François" but "Fatima" and "Daoud".

That's been their history. I believe in the next few days--if things do not abate--they will come down very hard and let the chips fall where they may. They are not beyond stupid: they know they must stop les intifada Francaise or they can all kiss their froggie butts goo'bye.

And I hope the good ship Destiny smiles on us by permitting Sarko to come aboard. I have a very positive feeling about this.

both the WashPost and Fox News are now reporting the "eleven cars" torched within Paris proper tonight, but with maddeningly few details. Blogger No Parisan writes that 4 cars were burned near the Place de le Republique---that's definitely "city center".
I have to believe the government will finally get off their soft little tooshes the minute they detect Paris (and its tourism) are threatened. Unfortunately, the rioters also know the power that gives them. If they take the fight into the city, they'll be declaring war on the government.

He looks so troubled by teenage angst, alienation and dis-illusionment. Maybe there are drugs to treat this affliction?

The eleven cars refers ONLY to vehicles in Paris' city center. Prior to now the violence had been limited to outlying suburbs. It's significant if the "youths" take the fight into the heart of Paris. C'est intolerable!
