There is saintliness in a soldier's prospective acceptance of an honorable death in combat. To diminish such a deed, especially in service of a political agenda, approaches sacrilege. ADVERTISEMENT
So it was with the manner in which The New York Times last week noted the death of Cpl. Jeffrey Starr, USMC, of Snohomish, Wash., who was killed in Ramadi on April 30 during his third tour of duty in Iraq.
The young Marine's death was a centerpiece in the Times' coverage of America's 2,000th combat death in Iraq.
The newspaper's overview of the war is no secret: To hear the Times tell it, Americans are being slaughtered for no reason in an unjust war.
To bolster its argument, the Times last week publicly slandered the memory of a genuine American hero Cpl. Starr.
In a profile of multiple-tour vets, the Times wrote about Starr who served in the First Battalion of the Fifth Marine Regiment and quoted from a letter to his girlfriend found on his computer after his death. "I kind of predicted this," it read, referring to his death. "A third time just seemed like I'm pushing my chances."
There it is dark, foreboding, pessimistic, without any suggestion that he believed he was in Iraq for a valid purpose.
But, as columnist Michelle Malkin disclosed on these pages two days ago, after hearing from Starr's family, there was more to his letter much more.

Blair just did what he was taught from his seniors in the newsroom.
This really takes the cake. I hope that one day we can take down the NYT. I'm just beside myself that they would use this brave man's death for propaganda.
Well the Times believes they were fair but they I noticed they aren't touching the "accurate" description with a ten foot pole.
And what's with the reporter's arrogant attitude questioning the opinion of people who haven't been to Iraq? Double helping of elitism on that one.
Funny how the NY Times crowd portrays Bush as stupid. We know that the current publisher inherited the paper, is dumber than a stump, and primary goal is to promote homosexuality. Who is the fool? It ain't Bush.
Posted separately on purpose. The NYT should not appear in the same post as the name of this fine member of the USMC.
This soldier is indeed a hero.
He sounds like another fellow we've heard about:
"Every man dies, not every man lives"
I would love to know how much Islamist money has been funneled into the New York Times and it's corporate parent...

I think it will happen, and the take down has begun. Never before has this loony paper been challenged to the extent it is now, and it will have to bow to pressure and even out its bias or slowly die under the weight of constant criticism and alternate news sources. I doubt the former and am relishing the latter...
Blair just did what he was taught from his seniors in the newsroom.
I think we should remember the name of the reporter who did this, James Dao.
He seems to have no particular qualifications for writing about Iraq, contrary to his snide comment, beyond the fact that he's one of Pinch's designated political hitmen. His specialty is praising Democrat politicians, attacking Republicans, and pushing the "gay rights" agenda. Evidently his only interest in or knowledge about Iraq is that it's a useful tool for attacking President Bush and the War on Terror.

His words are an eternal testimonial to the heroic tradition of the United States Marine Corps and to the enduring nobility of his unqualified indeed, saintly personal sacrifice.
The disgraceful abridgement published by The New York Times profanes Cpl. Starr's heroism; that the newspaper seems not to understand what it has done is equally shocking.
Amen. You're right, Karen. Good point.
"They say Knight-Ridder doesn't have a plan. Actually they do, " Ferrick said in an interview. "They are going to jettison the old, shoot the young and
torture the survivors, which, come to think of it, seems to be an industrywide plan."

An industrywide circulation drop of 1.9% for the six months ended in March was one of the biggest in recent times and continued a fairly consistent two-decade decline. Daily newspaper circulation has fallen nearly 9 million from its 1984 peak of 63.3 million, while the U.S. population has grown by about 58 million. The country lost 306 daily papers, 17% of the total, between 1960 and last year.
Oh well... Another 500 - 1,000 people just cancled there NYT subscription.
Freedom is a something that the maggots who work for the Leftist NYT will never fully understand. They think freedom comes from Darwin or Gaia or some other mythical entity and that it cannot be taken away from them. That kind of thinking is an indicator of an ignorant person with a very low level of intelligence.
