Today you are celebrating your 28th wedding Anniversary................not in the White House, at the ranch, or even in this country. But we are celebrating this joyous and remarkable occasion with you here, and thanking God for your lives and what they have meant to us. You are being supported in deep and fervent prayer by millions of prayer warriors who have been lifting you up daily since before you took up residence in "The People's House" nearly 5 years ago. This is the fifth anniversary that you have celebrated since you became President and First Lady, and they have been years filled with great tumult and pain, but also great joy and love.
How we have benefited as a nation from having you two in the White House! Many may have forgotten what a joyful day it was in January of 2001 when you moved in and 'cleaned up the place,' ..............but we have not. We have not forgotten the honor and dignity that you brought back to a residence that had been degraded and dirtied, and we are still thankful for that day, and all the days since. Most of us didn't know you very well then, but in the five years since, we have seen what's inside you both........... your character, your strength, your integrity, your humor, and your deep and abiding love for each other.
............
Your story is a love story that has been, and remains a positive example to us all.......... whether we are married, single, young or old. It is not a story carefree and filled with ease, but rather one tested by fiery trials, and we have asked "How long, O Lord?". And yet, through those trials, we have seen you both shine throughout the difficulties, and many times have asked, "How do they do it?" But those of us who have been watching you closely now know well what the answer to that question is.
You have endured.........with an abiding joy and peace........all the trials that have been thrown at you, because of your shared faith in God, the prayers of His people for you, the love and support of your family, and the love you have each for the other, with the strength that it gives you both. Laura, many years ago, you told us that you and George were each other's refuge and support, but we didn't know then what the future held, and how important that quality in your marriage would be The years since have seen a horrific attack on America, which revealed in you the deep courage you each possess, a time of war and testing that has revealed your steadfastness, and the ceaseless attacks of a political enemy that cares neither for truth nor decency, and is continuing its assault on a daily basis with ever darkening overtones. And yet, through it all, you have remained vibrant and at peace, and in that we have seen answered prayer.
We have watched you work together in love for others. Over and over again, we continue to observe both the steadfastness and the playfulness of your relationship............both elements of which are necessary for the kind of marriage that withstands the pressures and tests that come along in a lifetime.
.....
How we wish for you continued joy and ever growing passion! How we celebrate that the man whom God has chosen to lead America at this hour of great challenge is also an example of a Christ-like husband in a God-centered marriage, and that his wife reveals the qualities of the Proverbs wife, whose husband has complete confidence in and greatly values. How we respect you for being a part of a truly 'covenant marriage'..........a union that honors your binding agreement, sealed by the One who placed you together. We know that no outward circumstances can tear you apart............that the two of you exemplify the wedding ceremony illustration of two pieces of flypaper that, once bonded, cannot be taken apart unless they, themselves be torn.
We pray for you. We love you.......... and we wish you the happiest and the most romantic of all anniversaries! (And we anxiously await finding out if you received diamonds from your faithful husband, Laura!) May your love continue to grow, as you care more for the other than you do for yourselves, and as you continue to commit your lives to God in obedience and sacrifice to serve America.
May you continue to be the love of each other's lives, the satisfaction of each other's every need and desire, the joy and passion of each other's days and nights, the recipients of each other's tender kisses and touch, and the completion of each other's very being!
Perhaps you have a gremlin in your computer.....
Just for the record, that wedding photo is inverted on the Presidential Library site.
It SHOULD look like this.....
(I've been meaning to tell Poppy about this. :)
Thank you for this glorious tribute, ohioWfan. I was only able to view the first 2 pages and just now was able to track it down again. George and Laura Bush are a wonderful example of true love and dedication-and a truly gorgeous couple.
While visiting my son and his family in Cincinnati the weekend before the election we were able to attend the Bush rally--it was Halloween night. What an unforgettable event and I knew then that he would win Ohio. It was such a "family" night--with children in costume all over the stadium, with free ice cream for all. We are blessed to have this extraordinary couple in our White House. I have to say I don't believe I have ever seen a happier couple!
And this extraordinary collection of photos proves it!
So very true.......I've never seen anything like it.
I've never felt the kind of excitement and enthusiasm that Bush supporters in this state had. It was electric.
And your experience in Cincinnati backs it up.
Truly extraordinary people!
Okay, I'm taking a peak.
Happy Anniversary, George and Laura!
LOL! Thanks, good friend! :)
Thank you for this wonderful photo, ohioWfan. I have a rather bedraggled copy on my fridge, cut from Rush's newsletter, I think. He first mentioned on his show that a rainbow had appeared behind them as they were exiting their plane, and that on the same day Al Gore exited his during a thunderstorm. Rush said he knew then that God was on George Bush's side! I never saw it anywhere else.
I remember seeing the side by side photos with the dark clouds over algore.
I do believe it may well have been the Lord's telling us all that this was HIS man for the great task ahead.
Little did we know how great that task was going to be.........
A wonderful tribute Ohio. My prayer is for President Bush and his lovely wife to grow old together in joy and peace at Prairie Chapel with grandchildren surrounding them.
Amen, Suzi! Please, dear Lord.........let them grow old together!
She stood with him when the times were bad
He knows that he made her sad
But he changed his life
For his young daughters and his wife
This campaign had been very rough
They had proven theyre tough enough
He got the word...they heard him shout
"Ive got to get a message out"
"Tell Laura I love her
tell Laura I need her
Though shes packed, shell have to wait
Before we move, Ill fumigate"
Hed been there when dad had proudly served
Like a rock he never swerved
Lessons learned will serve him well
Respect will come from the truth you tell
When they showed him around the place
Theres a troubled look on his face
Then he yelled out loud and clear
"What were those scumbags doing here?"
"Tell Laura I love her
tell Laura I need her
Though shes packed, shell have to wait
Before we move, Ill fumigate"
Hes sickened by the White House sinks
Wonders what Willys daughter thinks
Rapist slime and evil wench
He must remove this awful stench
"Tell Laura I love her
tell Laura I need her
Though shes packed, shell have to wait
Before we move, Ill fumigate"
"Tell Laura I love her
tell Laura I need her
Though shes packed, shell have to wait
Before we move, Ill fumigate"
I'm just getting around to this thread...GREAT job Ohio...and HAPPY LATE ANNIVERSARY TO THE PRESIDENT AND HIS BEAUTIFUL WIFE LAURA.
What a beautiful anniversary tribute to our beloved President and First Lady!
Thank you for the thread, ohioWfan! The pictures are great!
CONGRATULATIONS AND HAPPY 28TH ANNIVERSARY, MR. PRESIDENT AND MRS. BUSH!!!
MAY GOD BLESS YOU WITH MANY, MANY MORE.
That's the one, that's the one!! I was mistaken (the golden years will do that to one). As George and Laura were leaving the podium and stopping to visit with people, he picked up a small child who was dressed in a fuzzy duckling suit. It was the most heartwarming sight I have ever seen. I always wondered if that photo had appeared anywhere. And I neglected to wish our President and his lovely First Lady congratulations on the celebration of their 28th wedding anniversary.
When he spoke to the Military Wives at their annual luncheon last week he told them he needed their help. He had an anniversary coming up and hoped they could help him with a gift suggestion. Charming, as always.
While the Kennedys were an attractive couple there never seemed to be any electricity between them--and now we know why--as there always seems to be between George & Laura.
My daughter-in-law had the campaign poster of the President hugging the young girl who lost her mother on 9/11 on their refrigerator. He had the most poignant look on his face, you could see his heart was breaking for her. It was taken by her father, who just aimed his camera and clicked, not even knowing if it was in focus. That one is a real winner!
His soul is on display in it.
Happy Anniversary with prayers that there will be many, many more to come. God bless both of you.
God Bless you, President and First Lady, and congratulations on your anniversary.
You, Mr. President and your First Lady are deserving of this beautiful tribute and honor. May God Bless you both on your anniversary and always.
Happy Anniversary!!!
Touching, and yet hilarious, Doug.
I read that Laura went around the place with a Clorox bottle in hand when they first moved in.
And I'm quite sure they brought in a new mattress.........
Well, it hasn't been sent to the White House yet (and the First Couple just got there, and I'm sure headed straight to bed), so it's not too late at all. :)
