Los Angeles Television Station Apologizes to Schwarzenegger After Audience Mix-Up

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A television station apologized to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Friday after discovering that several Democratic activists were in its audience for a voter forum.

The forum at KNBC was intended to help voters learn more about Schwarzenegger's slate of initiatives on Tuesday's ballot.

But the Republican governor was peppered with questions with a partisan slant during Thursday's broadcast, and at one point a man in the audience tried to shout him down.

The audience of about 75 people was selected by a research company, which was directed to assemble a balanced group of voters from the Los Angeles area, said Robert Long, the station's news director.

But the station was unaware that several of those picked were actively involved in local Democratic politics, and that was never made clear in the broadcast, he said.

The company recruited the Ventura County voters from a list of "politically aware" citizens it had compiled, Long said. But survey forms submitted by prospective audience members gave no hint that some had partisan ties because they were not asked.

During the forum, the abundance of politically charged questions did not appear to unsettle the governor.

Schwarzenegger "did exactly what he should have done, which was politely listen to their not-so-polite questions and set the record straight," said Todd Harris, a spokesman for the governor's campaign.

Seems to me they may have done the Gov a favor if he handled their loaded questions well. Kinda hard to tell without the video or a transcript, though.

I'd like to see some conservatives pepper him with some hard hitting questions.

To be exact, I heard the group that was left to get the audience was actually a leftist Mexican group.

F them, if they want to be this way, what ever of these propositions don't make it should be brought up again in the next election for another vote, then another vote.

Let the unions take another 200 million and another 200 million and another 200 million from their workers until the state gets sick of these crooks.

Arnold is too socially liberal for my tastes, but in all fairness, I wish our President would take on liberal sacred cows (ie far-left teacher's unions, gerrymandered Democrat congressional districts) with the same brassiness with which Arnold has.

So much for honest discussion and debate.

At least one of the loal news channels ran this story on TV tonight calling it exactly as it was, a rat plant. They showed 3 or 4 different rat plants and identified them by name and democrat party affilication - title and locality. They were are all higher ups. It was devastation if you ask me. Big help to Arnold.

I don't rememeber the channel here in so Cal. I'm thinking it was KCAL 9, but it could have been one of the local majors, ABC, CBS or NBC.

Why not apologize to the voters, at least a million of whom signed the initiative petitions to place these propositions on the ballot? Or, at least publically apologize to everyone paying attention to the news about propositions for broadcasting a biased event while advertising it as balanced.

I just got polled by "FEC Research" doing an automated voice recognition poll.

I'm so pist-off because I always forget to hit the record button on my answering machine so's I can share the questions with everybody here!!!

I do remember that it asked only if I was registered, not if I intended to vote. It only asked about Prop 73 & 75 and if I were Dem, or Repub. It also asked if I held a favorable view of the Governor and several other "telling" questions. About 3, or 4 were about pro life/pro abort.

It only asked for "yes" or "no" answers! Oh well...

Has that Sacramento BEE article about the Field Poll that showed Arnold not getting re-elected been posted on FR, yet??? How about the article by Dan Walters talking about the wild divergence of the polling??? How about the articles in the BEE about the turnout being greater, even up to 42% and how that hurts the measures and Arnold???

Hey! I want some answers here!!! Git back to me, will ya???
