The Eurabian war
Hugh Hewitt Radio Program ^ | Nov. 3, 2005 | Mark Steyn

MS: I'm actually thinking of going to Paris. I went to one of these suburbs that's currently ablaze three years ago. And what was interesting to me is I had to bribe a taxi driver a considerable amount of money just to take me out there. They're miserable places. But what was interesting to me is that after that, I then flew on to the Middle East, and I was in Yemen, and a couple of other places. And what was interesting to me was that I found more menace in the suburbs of Paris than I did in some pretty scary places in the Middle East. I mean, there is a real...this is the start of a long Eurabian civil war. I think the European tendency to appease these people is coming into play in the French cabinet. And I would say the one consequence of that is that a lot more people are going to be voting for fringe parties in the next election. We forget. The last presidential election, 20% of the French electorate voted for the fascist candidate. No, they can't. And essentially, you're dealing with communities that are totally isolated from the mainstream of French life. Where all kinds of practices that wouldn't be tolerated, that are not officially tolerated by French law, such as polygamy, for example. Polygamy is openly practiced in these...in les Banlieux, as they call these suburbs, these Muslim quarters of Paris. I mean, we're talking about five miles from the Elysee Palace. Five miles from where Jacques Chirac sits. And you finally got...you know, we kept hearing all this stuff ever since September 11th, you know, the Muslim street is going to explode in anger. Well, it finally did, and it was in Paris, not in the Middle East.

MS: So apparently, it's okay if terrorism is conducted in Europe, as long as it's against selected targets. And that's, I think, really what a lot of this was about. You know, the Europeans have been tolerant of, for example, Palestinian terrorism for years, and of the intifada that's been going on in France against synagogues and Jewish schools and Kosher butchers and all the rest. And now, it's moved on to more general targets. They're suddenly finding it's kind of harder to appease these people.

***

Geez, they've moved past the Jews. Whodathunkit? Bonne chance mes amis.

What goes around, comes around.

Doubtful this will puncture French arrogance.

Yes... it seems that after a few years of Western Europe's self-congratulatory attitude on how peaceful and civilized they have become, there will be another war between the nominal Christians and the Muslims... nothing new under the sun indeed. Europe is a tired place and ready for a change.

The only time I was ever bothered by anyone was by a middle eastern youth in the outskirts of Paris. I'm sure the French would have thought "well what's the idiot American doing there anyway" but we had no idea. There are shanty towns of middle easterners all around the outskirts of Paris. It's pretty bizarre. In America the poor are in the inner cities but in Paris they are in the suburbs.

First the Brits, now the French are learning the lessons of their permissive and politically correct attitudes toward Muslim immigration into their countries and doing nothing to keep tabs on their activities...and paying a VERY heavy price for it. Take note America. Keep the liberals out of power or we'll have the same thing here.

A month or two ago, half my family passed through from Paris to Orly on that shuttle that was stoned by the rioters, on their way back from South Asia. If they want to cause trouble for France, which is one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world, all they have to do is throw a few Molotov cocktails at that shuttle.

But I can't resist quoting this other gem:

Obviously, if you like Clinton, and I don't know what Clinton accomplished? Did he...was it federally mandated bicycling helmet legislation?

One of the TV news reports also said that the riots started when the police went into a 'prohibited area' (meaning an area the people will not let the police come in)

And this time, there is no draft in place for Americans to bail their asses out.

Let secular Europe sink into the Atlantic. They are not worth saving this time around.

Whenever I am riding past the first few stops on the RER line from CDG to Cite, I am always glad I am not riding a local! Pretty rough areas.

There's certainly a lot that interests Mr. Steyn.

Here's the biggest problem for the Muslims in France: they are shunned by the rest of French society. Is it small wonder why that an ethnic/religious riot would break out in no time flat?

What's interesting is that this is far less likely to happen in Germany, mostly because foreigners from other countries have well-integrated into German society since the 1970's when the first wave of guest workers from Turkey arrived to work in German auto assembly lines.

The French are not afraid to be fascists. They'll set up troups with machine guns along the vulnerable sections of the route, so that les Barbeurs do not interfere with the tourism market.

No ACLU over there, haw haw.

I think we should be very stupid to become involved in another European conflict... we don't have the man-power, and we don't have the will... Europe's own breed of apathetic liberalism might come back to haunt them in a feminized United States.
